Intelligence Compared With Chess

Comments: is it really fair to compare a game of chess with the intelligence of the player?
You can compare it to a degree since there is a lot of logic involved. However someone that is practiced in it shouldn't be compared since you can be proficient in chess but fail an exam that someone else who is lousy at chess might pass.
A good way to look at this... Are great chess players rocket scientists and vice-versa? I do not think you can seriously rate someone's intelligence purely though a game.
Chess skill is linked to intelligence
Intelligence -- and not just relentless practice -- plays a significant role in determining chess skill, indicates a comprehensive new study. The research provides some of the most conclusive evidence to date that cognitive ability is linked to skilled performance -- a hotly debated issue in psychology for decades -- and refutes theories that expertise is based solely on intensive training. Why chess masters win
Chess is one of the oldest - and most popular - board games. Yet what is the secret of successful chess players? Cognitive scientists have been investigating this question for the past year in the project “Ceege” by recording players’ eye movements and facial expressions. Now, the researchers are revealing their preliminary results and explain why Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen again earned the title of world chess champion at this year’s tournament. Ref.
