Does A Fireplace Help In Selling A Home?

Comments: I want to sell my home and used modern heating equipment to keep it warm during the winter. We never had a real fireplace, never needed it because its a modern home. Someone advised me that if I put in a real fireplace it would be a big selling point, how true is that?
I guess it depends on where you live, but if you saved a bunch of money with your modern heating equipment (not sure what it is) then that is a big selling point. If it is just a basic heat pump that you are using then in general a fireplace would be an edge versus other homes. However, if you put in a fireplace now, do not expect to recover more money than what it is worth.
So if you are looking for a edge to sell your home, yeah, it might help. If you are looking to make more profit off the sale, then probably not.

I don't know about the selling part but I love a home with a fireplace. Any house will seem like its missing something without a fireplace in the living room or den. The bigger the fireplace the better too!

Over the last few years I have noted friends who bought actually sought fireplaces. Not the traditional wood burners but the gas ones with autopilots on them. Great secondary heat source and fairly real looking.
The newer blower systems really distribute the heat well as well.
