Popup Blocker?

Do you use a popup blocker? If so, which one and what do you like about it?

I have always been against them because some computer users don't have a lot of computer knowledge and can't figure out how to determine if something is being blocked that shouldn't be. For example, I have had users at work come to me complaining that they can't get their exchange mail remotely through the exchange web client from home. It turns out they are running "Popup Cop" and it prevents the mail messages from being opened.

I just started using the popup blocker that comes with the Google Toolbar (free download) and I love it. It is extremely easy to allow certain sites to have popups. There is a toggle button on the Google Toolbar which either shows how many popups have been blocked or it will say "Site popups allowed." It also has the ability to selectively allow popups at a site just this one time, but that isn't quite as obvious although it isn't exactly difficult either.

The one downside is if you toggle from allowing to blocking and then back to allowing, and you are in the middle of posting a reply to a topic (like this) the screen refreshes and all of your typing is gone. cry.gif I did this 3 times before I figured out what was happening. smile.gif-->rolleyes.gif

If you run a popup blocker, be sure to allow popups for this site. The only popups you get are for personal messages and you won't want to miss them.

I switched from IE to Mozilla. Mozilla has a built-in smart blocker. So, if the site I am working in specifically calls for a popup window (such as this forum), then the window opens. However, I get no spam popups at all.

Mozilla is free, works better than IE, and doesn't have the engineered-in security problems.

I highly recommend it over IE.

I use a pop up blocker from Yahoo. It came with my Yahoo companion and tool bar. It works very well, even with me bein on cable, it still catches them. If I want to allow pop ups on some sites, I just set it to the sites I want to accept them from.

Blocker Popup

Im with NightHawk here. From the day i turn on the pop-up block setting in Mozlilla, i have never had to turn it off. Ive been to very professional (my 401k) sites, to the not so professional sites and it has always worked like a dream, stopped what it should have, let things open that should have.

I switch over to Mozilla about two yours ago and will never go back to IE, ever. (for many reasons). "engineered-in security problems" biggrin.gif gottta love it tongue.gif

If i remeber correctly Opra also has a builtin anti-pop. I would recoment Mozilla over it thow.

I too, would deffentily recomend Mozilla to every one.
It is an Open Source code, which means many people have givin their imput to produce a worthy browser and not just some greedy corp. If you know how to code yourself, you can also tincker with it.

Yes Fluffy, Opera does prevent pop-ups also. For some time now its been my browser of choice.

Another good one to try is FireFox, which is a slimed down version of Mozilla that also prevents pop-ups. Its the only browser I like to use other than Opera.

I used Opera for quite a long while. It is quite good. However, it frequently died under WinXP.

I switched to Mozilla a few months ago, and haven't had it die once. My son uses Firefox, and so does my wife.

A great set of programs.

I would like to switch, but because Netscape and IE are still the dominant browsers I have to wait til they phase out (if they ever) or I will be ill informed as to how clients view our web sites.

Webmasters should also check their websites with some of the lesser used browsers, because if sites only look good in IE then we may be stuck with IE forever.

Have you ever viewed this site in Opera? I think a couple images may not be lining up properly.
