Zooming around in sport utility vehicles bristling with weapons, Mexican soldiers-turned-drug hit men have taken this border city to the brink of anarchy, infiltrating local police and threatening anyone who gets in their way.

There must be some kind of pull at a political level for such a group to still reign and even acquire the services of soldiers. I cannot understand why the main Mexico militia does not just move in and take them out.

Mexican authorities said Monday they have arrested a founder of the Zetas drug gang and that he could be connected to the killing of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent this year.
Federal police detained Jesus Enrique Rejo Aguilar, known as "El Mamito," on Sunday, Mexico's public safety secretary said.
He is also linked to the attack against Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents that killed Jaime Zapata and injured another agent in February, a statement from Mexico's public safety secretary said. Ref. CNN

Mexican marines have captured one of the world's most notorious drug-gang leaders in a raid near the US border. Miguel Angel Trevino Morales, 40, head of the Zetas cartel, was intercepted with two lieutenants in a pick-up truck near Nuevo Laredo. Ref. Source 2
