JB mentioned something I was going to bring up. In the temple reccomend interview we are asked if we strive to keep the Sabbath Day Holy. What would your Bishop say if you replied, " No, I do not believe that it is a binding commandment for our times and I do not keep it Holy. I either go to work or stay home from church and watch football." Do you think your Bishop might have some advice for you?

Buggeyes, I now see what are you trying to say and I must confess I never thought it that way, thanks for the explanation that brings some more light into my mind and yes, knowledge. Now, I was thinking exactly the same way JB was saying earlier about the Word of Wisdom if it is a commandment we should be asked specific questions regards to it, just like mentioned in Doctrine and Covenants 89. But I always get the impression that it seems that we are asked if we keep it but generally speaking (alcohol, coffee, tea and tobacco) what about meats? the use of grains? etc?.
Just like you explained about the Sabbath Day not being a binding commandment but only live it as best we can, it seems to me that even though the Word of Wisdom is a commandment itself, is not being taking it as 'binding' since some questions are not being ask for a Temple Recommend.

The question of if you work on Sunday or not, is a tough question to answer. Add to that the question of what jobs would be considered a job that would be ok, or even essential, to work on Sunday is even tougher. Emergency service professions such as doctors, police, firefighters, are certainly jobs that are essential, but how about power line technicians, car repair shops, tow truck, or even supermarkets, for people that really need special food and forgot to buy it beforehand, or medicine that the hospital just prescribed to him/her? These are questions that each person should answer him/her-self, and shouldn't be a general yes/no everyone should/should not do something.

You can look at it this way too... hotels, restaurants and taxis still have to run, if they all went home what would happen to everyone. Marriott hotels I'll bet has loads of people working on Sundays.

Mormons & Sabbath Day: Working On Sunday?

Elder Pdays, you made one of my points for me, the hotel industry is one of many jobs that isn't really thought as essential, until you realize that the Church encourages members to visit family, the sick, prisons, and other places on Sunday. I have a sister that is far enough away that when I visit her on Sunday, I have to fill up my car in her town, and then drive back. Am I breaking the Sabbath by buying gas, even though I used an automated gas station? Do I break the Sabbath buy buying things from vending machines, or other automated pay-and-get computerized, person-less, ways of shopping? We live in a world of grey, of no clear what is right, verses, what is wrong, world. Living by the Good-Better-Best mode is great, but that is even blurry at times.

I know people who truly wonders all these things but for me this is fanatical in nature (and quite pharisaical) and most importantly, we are missing the bigger picture.

I don't really do anything except sleep and watch TV, and when I have to play video games.
