Criminals Attacking Indians?
I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the story of this Trini family in the US who have overstayed their visa (after living illegally for 6 years) and in order to stay they took their case to court in order to ask for asylum and for relief under the Convention Against Torture.

The family asked US authorities for asylum, telling judges that the country is "beset by violence" and arguing that East Indians who return from the US are more likely to suffer "persecution" at the hands of criminals because they are perceived as wealthy.
The argument for asylum was rejected, through several levels of appeal, once by an immigration judge, twice by the Board of Immigration Appeal, and finally, in a per curiam opinion filed two weeks ago, a panel of three judges of the Court of Appeal in Philadelphia.
Third Circuit judges Thomas L Ambro, Joseph A Greenaway and Morton Ira Greenberg rejected an appeal by Anil Pooram, Carrol Pooram and their daughter, Shenell, of a decision taken by the US Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) to not reopen their case, which dates back to 2006, the height of this country's kidnapping and crime spike.
