Looking For Answers!

Just wanted to say Hi wink.gif to everyone here!!! I just found this site last night and I love it. I was looking for some information on something I heard. And found this place, maybe someone can help me.
I heard that theres a 63% chance that an asteriod is going to hit earth on August 27 or 28? If it does it will wipe us out. Its not like I heard this from the street or just gossip in my salon. It was on the radio. Just wondering if anyone else has heard about it and what you think.
Oh and how do you get a pic on your profile. I tried to upload one out of my gallery and it said it had to be from a site, so I uploaded my pic to a website and tried that???? I don't know how to do it. Thanks undecided.gif

I have not heard anything about an asteroid hitting the earth on that date, but here are some tips...

Offtopic but,
When talking about a subject - stay on that subject rather than try to cover three and four things. To learn how to use the features of this forum please look at the FAQ board as was suggested to you in your intro post. The FAQ board will also tell you how uploading profile pics are done. If you have to say something not in relation with a topic please use the off topic tags as I am doing. For support use the Contact page or contact one of the mods privately.

I haven't heard specifically about any asteroids. However, there is almost a "cult following" about the concept of a "Planet X" that is supposed to pass through the solar system and cause all types of problems.

According to NASA Ames Research Center, https://impact.arc.nasa.gov/

QUOTE
Is the Earth Targeted for an Impact?

Not that we know of! None of the asteroids or comets discovered so far is on a collision course with Earth. However, we can't speak for those that are not yet discovered. In principle, one of those could hit any time, but statistically the chances are very small.

Hope this helps you.

I honestly do not think it would be public knowledge if an earth shaddering asteroid was going to hit. The main reason i see would be, what if their wrong; people would be going crazy thinking they are going to die and every thing would fall apart. If the powers at be knew of somthing like this, i think it would be kept silent.

But add me to the list of not hearing about this till your post smile.gif

Mali, every year there are always news about asteroids going to hit the Earth. I tried to make a search in the specific one you are talking about but I could not find anything but I found this interesting article from CNN:

Here is a nice website with information about "Near Earth Asteroids" that NASA keeps track of. There are new discoveries all the time.

https://neat.jpl.nasa.gov/neatintr.htm

And here's a nice graph of recent discoveries. Apparently, it's increasing significantly ~ or perhaps the technology to find them is getting better.
