Pride is thinking we are equal with God in this life.
Pride is not having the humility to realize that we are all capable of falling regardless of our knowledge, our testimonies, or an assurance of our exaltation because of past experiences or callings.

32 But there is a possibility that man may fall from grace and depart from the living God; 33 Therefore let the church take heed and pray always, lest they fall into temptation; |
As a practical online example: I recently had to delete one Member of this Community because they sought to 'teach us' their view and when we disagreed or pointed out flaws in their thinking they chose to insult us. It is not the first time and it is not the last. In fact I get many so called Members of the Church (they say they are, but I do not know what status) Emailing me these rants and sarcasms because they feel they musty be heard. In other words they are incapable of learning or seeing another perspective. Indeed, they do not know how foolish they make themselves look.
This is another attribute of the self-righteous - they want to say what is on their mind regardless to how it is to be taken or if it is even correct. One of the key things we learn from the Gospel is that you teach when it is time to teach and avoid all contentions.

Rather off topic, but... dbackers, I can't answer your other questions in the perfection thread until somebody posts after me. |

QUOTE |
11 And again I say unto you as I have said before, that as ye have come to the knowledge of the glory of God, or if ye have known of his goodness and have tasted of his love, and have received a remission of your sins, which causeth such exceedingly great joy in your souls, even so I would that ye should remember, and always retain in remembrance, the greatness of God, and your own nothingness, and his goodness and long-suffering towards you, unworthy creatures, and humble yourselves even in the depths of humility, calling on the name of the Lord daily, and standing steadfastly in the faith of that which is to come, which was spoken by the mouth of the angel. |
The whole thing is simple. If you focus on helping others then you are seeking rightousness. If you are seeking only to help yourself then you are self-righteous. You can try and make it more complexed than that, but this is what it is in a nutshell.
