Mormons: Pregnant Again Or Not? - Page 8

QUOTE (JB @ 2-Jan 09, 10:16 PM)
He is implying that if you set a number then you are at fault.

Correct because you're supposed to welcome as many as Heavenly Father wants to send?

QUOTE
He is not implying that if you plan to have children and prepare to do so you are at fault.

Ah but that's the key element here. While you plan and prepare yourself to have those children, what will you use to prevent pregnancy? Birth control! And he is saying that it is contradictory to this covenant (temple) to prevent the birth of children if the parents are in good health.

QUOTE
If it were the letter of the law then Sisters would have a baby and then be pregnant again a couple of months after.

Correct and it happens. Those who do not believe in any sort of birth control and believe the Lord (as stated in the scriptures) is the one who open and closes the womb of a woman have babies very close to each other. I do not believe is the letter of the law but what has been stated for a very long time through Church leaders. Of course, with the new approach on things the Church is more careful about the statements they make in these sort of issues, but does not mean they have changed their mind either.

QUOTE (LDS_Forever)

I disagree. I've heard the brethren say that we are to welcome as many as we can provide for, and that the decision rests within each family -- not the church. This is from the "Gospel Topics" section of LDS.org:
QUOTE
When husband and wife are physically able, they have the privilege and responsibility to bring children into the world and to nurture them. The decision of how many children to have and when to have them is a private matter for the husband and wife.

The quote you provided (which is the official statement on the issue) states that is a private matter between the couple and the Lord, it does not mention anything else. Some brethren took the liberty to express various opinions, the one you referred to ("as many as we can provide for") contradicts past Church leaders who have mentioned health concerns as the only reason for a couple not to have kids or stop having more so I guess because everyone has a different concept on the issue the Church seem to have taken a neutral position on the matter, leaving up to the couple to decide but it's not new that the Church never encouraged/encourages birth control methods. Dozens of quotes on the issue.

LDS_forever, if you were married and living in China and you had one child, but felt the Lord wanted you to have more what would you do?

Not Or Pregnant Mormons

If I receive personal and clear revelation from the Lord, I would do what He tells me to do. Who am I to tell the Lord he cannot ask me something against the law? His instructions and purposes always have a reason we may not understand or even agree.

My question was not about personal clear revelation. Personal clear revelation that would require you to break laws and other seemingly unorthodox approaches would be more than just a simple 'feeling'. This is not like the Lord asked Lehi to move from Jerusalem or Nephi to take the plates from Laban through killing him. The question is simple., what would you do.

I answered already, if the Lord ask me to do it I would do it.

So you are saying the Lord would ask you to go against the law of the land, risk imprisonment or an abortion for the sake of having more children? And if you, why not all the faithful mothers who also live in China and want to have more children and they felt the Lord want them to?
