Comments: Why does the Matrix movies need to be discussed so much in every little detail why can't it just be seen as entertainment and now that you are entertained you move on to the next movie?
Discussing the Matrix is part of the 'entertainment'. What's the use of watching something and not try to ascertain the deeper meaning of it? With your thinking the Shakespeare plays should be seen as just entertainment and not studied in Universities or public schools.
Call me naive if you want but a lot of what the Matrix talks about is like real life and we are just looking for the double meaning plus the entertainment too.
It is true that, if the Matrix was like any other action movie, most people would be fine with "moving on" and not talking about it. However, the Matrix is one of those movies where they try to open your mind to the possibilities (not dissimilar to the "opening of the mind" in the actual movie). It doesn't help that the "Matrix Theory" is backed by a number of intellectuals who try to support the possibility of its existence.
The Matrix is one of those movies that makes you wonder about the world around you. What if everything is a simulation?
Questions are long thought to be the seed of knowledge, and the Matrix serves to give a question that applies to everyone.
To answer the question about why the Matrix needs to be discussed I will add my 2 cents and ask back with a question... "why not?" people discuss mundane things like the weather so why not an intense movie with so many parallels?
