Mormon Church As A Business Model
This organization's philosophy, Carroll asserts, translated into an LDS penchant for success in business. By the late 20th century, he says, "Mormons were leaders in organizational development and other business-transforming fields." Ref. Source 7
Well, if one looks at the scriptural models for salvation as well as the doctrine on the Law of Consecration (Enrichment Section L, D&C Institute manual) etc., one sees that God is a free market capitalist.
For the LoC, private property is the fundamental principle. Regarding salvation, God/Christ speaks in terms of laying up in store, degrees of salvation based on merit, increasing one's talents etc., the wise use of money, etc.
So yes, the Church could could indeed be a good business model though I speak more of the doctrine rather than today's actual organization.
I very much doubt they were analyzing the Law of Consecration when they were featuring the church as a business model. This has more to do with what the church owns and has invested in. Anyone remember that full front page article in Time Magazine some years ago called "Mormons Inc."?

Comments: Why doesn't the Mormon church want to revealhow much money it has and what stocks / companies they own? I've heard that as part of the general authorities work in the church they also have to take on a role as CEO of one of the church's companies. Why does a religious organization need stock and businesses if they also collect tithes from their membership? Added to that its supposed to be a lay ministry except for the GAs so then its not like they have this big payout.
The Mormon way of business
The Mormons have produced a striking number of successful businesspeople [..] Less than 2% of Americans are Mormons, yet their commercial prominence belies their numbers. Ref. The Economist.
Mormon Church As A Business Model (Hover)
The Mormon church has one of the biggest advertizing campaigns ever. You never see other religions go all the way like the Mormon church does so of course it can be a business model, it is after all a corporation.
