Felthalas Introduction

Hello there,

I suppose the reason why I'm here is much the same as everyone else who has ever enjoyed playing Dungeons & Dragons. We all enjoy gathering together with friends and fellow gamers to explore a different world and experience encounters through the eyes of a mage that can harness arcane energies, a massive fighter who through brute force alone can topple a dragon, or a clever thief who can slip undetected into a palace and make off with the crown jewels before anyone's the wiser. We all enjoy the thrill of delving the depths of our imagination and creating characters that live and breathe in a world that is purely fictional.

But I digress, this is, of course, an introduction. So please allow spin a tail of how an awkward, misguided youth became the gamer I am today. . .

I started gaming back in 1988 (that would place me in the 7th grade). My best friend at the time introduced me to the game we all know as Dungeons & Dragons. My first experience with this wonderful game was with the original red box. This was the first edition of D&D, mind you, where your primary class choices included a fighter, a cleric, or a mage. Thus, "Rendar" the fighter was born. After conquering the initial dungeon, I decided I wanted to see more of what this game had to offer. After befriending several other gamers, we explored different worlds such as Greyhawk and its "Temple of Elemental Evil," Krynn which included my favorite fantasy race of all time (Kender), and (my favorite) Faerun and the treacherous city of the "underdark" known as Menzoberranzan.

[Fast forward to High School.] By now I was well versed in Advanced Dungeons & Dragons and had eagerly read every scrap of fiction by Margaret Weiss & Tracy Hickman - and fell in love with such wonderful characters as Raistlin Majere, Tasslehoff Burrfoot, and Tanis half-elven - as well R. A. Salvatore and my favorite character of all Drizzt Do'Urden, and several others such as Michael Moorcock, Raymond E. Feist, etc. I also tried my hand at various other games such as Magic: the Gathering, Manna War, and Warhammer 40k.

After high school, I joined the Navy and thought that I might have to leave the world of gaming behind. Little did I know that out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean there were gamers just like myself who eagerly wanted to explore dungeons and loot treasure as well. Over the course of 9 years and 3 westpacs (Navy term sorry - that would be a western pacific cruise) I became well versed in game-mastering 3rd Edition D&D as well as Shadowrun, Earthdawn, Alternity, Rifts, and Call of Cathulu.

After the Navy, I found that most of my friends from high school had moved away or were attending school like I was. Did this mean that my gaming career was over? Thankfully, this was not the case. It was at this time that I discovered the world of computerized gaming and developed a love relationship with such games as Balder's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, and Diablo.

Today, as married man, I have spread my love for gaming to my wife who has since become an Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect freak. However something inside me still longs for those long midnight gaming sessions hopped up on Ho-Ho's and Mountain Dew where I could plumb the depths of the underdark or search for the legendary Dragon Orbs.

Introduction Felthalas

Hey thanks JB,

I'd be happy to share any of my sea stories with you all any time.

I should have also included that the name Felthalas comes from a character I created while serving on board the Tarawa (the ship I served on). Felthalas was (still is) an elven ranger 29/ sorcerer 1/ arcane archer 10.

He ended up in Faerun after traveling between planes from the world of Barsaive (the homeworld of the Earthdawn RPG) and hails from the Bloodwood, which of course would make him a blood elf. It is rumored that he is the only living being to have seen Vestrivan (an ancient "horror" of the shadow realm that crossed the veil into Barsaive and has the likeness of a great wyrm) and lived. It's also rumored that the horror might have marked him.

Felthalas Introduction

Totally cool, you're probably going to end up being more of a DM here than a player with your experience. Hey, do you have any Scifi RP experience? We're in need of some others so my FE character can start going with an arctic rescue mission.

Hey there Author,

I have a fair amount of sci-fi RPG experience I'd say. I've DM'd Shadowrun, Alternity, Rifts, and Star Wars RPG (Rebellion Era).

If you haven't tried RIFTS (Palladium Books) yet, I highly recommend it.
