Muscles in comics started to follow this Mr. Olympia trend but I'm glad they toned it down a bit because it just isn't realistic or needed. Most superheroes don't have immense strength because of their muscles but because of some scientific or magical intervention.
Some artists still use the Olympic bodybuilder look for meaner characters but generally I do agree they have toned it down. If you look at the 1960s Superman with the one now its like the difference between a couch potato and an athlete.
[Yes] I can [kind of] agree with the argument its done to show that these people have trained or gained some added abilities to try and keep kids from taking on the school bully. I think they should just make them look more realistic.
What is realistic for a super hero though? I think that is the whole point of the exaggeration... Because there is nothing realistic about the average super hero.
To me they're still muscled up but in a more proportionate way and not sickly like some of those Mr. Olympia guys that just look gross.
I agree the mr olympia one are not mean for fighting, still a lot perceive strength with mass of muscle that try to make them look bulky which as I understand is not true its the compactness of the muscle, unless its for lifting, for fighting depend on the technique or style we can see where the muscle they build should be in, most of them even lack abs, but I say the general muscle build are like what bruce lee are.
