Sorry, unfortunally NO...
I'm in florida and 1 year ago I want to go to Washington and visit the smithsonian with my daughter and wife...We tought to go by train to enjoy the vacation (it is a streight line from here to there), but they want almost $2,500 and 3 days to arrive... we went by plane for $630.00 and in 2 hours.
The prices are for round trips.
The railroad companies didn't progress much on passanger transportation, they never modernized enough to make fast and afordable to people return to travel by train at reasonable long distances (400 miles or more), they care to transport cargo (what still reasonable) but not passangers...
I would have loved to travel by train again and give the opportunity to my daughter, but the railroad companies make very difficult to do so!
In my country the train is the cheapest way to travel.. So everybody use it but is boring (except for the summer when everybody goes to the seas side and most of the young people take the train)
Freight trains and passenger trains are a lot different as far as technology.
Freight trains have to carry a lot of weight and a wide variety of types of rail cars, including sea containers, truck trailers, and the ones that have been around for decades.
Passenger trains are high tech. Lot's of room if you pay well. Yet very expensive in the U.S.
City rail is different. I have ridden the Metro in D.C. and it is cheap and much faster than driving.
I used to go on trains a lot when I was a teenager, but haven't been on one for years.
My eldest Son travels by train regularly, but my 2 youngest children have never been on a train, so I decided that I would take them on a train ride last Saturday.
I have never seen them so quiet! They enjoyed every moment of the journey, and took so much interest in what was going on outside, I've decided to make it a regular thing for them.
I was also surprised to see how much trains had changed in the time that had passed since I last went on one!
