Humans give one another flowers in expression of their feelings. It is not limited to romance, but even happens with death. Do you give flowers to express how you feel? The referenced link is a chart of feelings based on the flower you choose. Feel free to place the flower and the feeling you would like to give.

Women in general are crazy over flowers, I like them but I'm not all crazy about them. When I die I don't want no flowers, I think it is a waste of money, not to mention that the smell itself of all them at a funeral service is creepy in my opinion. sad.gif

I love flowers, but I prefer fresh-from-the-garden flowers, not the "hothouse" variety -- they have no smell, really, without being in actual sunlight.

Roses are my favorite, and a close second is the daisy -- they are so cheerful smile.gif

I don't like really like flowers that have been cut/picked because basically once you do that they're dead, I guess being of a nature based faith that somehow seems wrong to me or maybe I'm just weird! I like to have growing plants around me I'm a big fan of orchids and I love the smell of Honeysuckle! I always hated the smell of Lavender which is annoying because I have trouble sleeping and it's a good calming plant to have around, I recently found however a french type of lavender that doesn't smell quite so sickly so maybe I'll have to invest in some!

I do not know about your religious beliefs (but this is not the Board to discuss it anyway), however I would like to comment on that part of your writing:
1. Like everything else flowers will die anyway (re: food - vegetables - fruits)
2. If you keep them in a vase of clean water with fresh air they will last long and in some cases longer than if they were in a garden
3. Flowers are there for us too, not us for the flowers

As a sign of friendship, peace or atmosphere flowers are great. On my 13th Birthday my mother bought a bouquet of flowers for me and I was surprised because I have never thought about receiving something like that (manly pride), but then after that, each birthday I expected my flowers.

Romantically I see that flowers generally appeal to all women as a statement that someone cares and they often are proud to show them off hence men are generally drawn to buying them. It takes an unusual woman (no pun intended Delerium) to reject a beautiful rose or vase full of daffodils.

Personally my wife loves flowers and makes sure to remind me too although I do not need such reminders wink.gif.

The only reason I brought up my beliefs was because it was relevant, I just don't like the thought of being given something thats dead, it's like that quote from romeo and juliet "swear not by the inconstant changing moon, for else it suggests you're feelings are likewise" (I know thats not exact but you get the idea!) I do like flowers I'd just rather someone gave me some that we're growing in a pot, I don't know I just feel giving someone something that's dead is a bet gesture to make in a relationship but I know I'm in a minority and like I said maybe I'm just weird!

Offtopic but,

Daffodils Are one of the national symbols of wales I didn't know you got them in America!

A man I knew who died of a brain tumor requested that people not send flowers, "because flowers die, too." I agree that I don't want tons of flowers at my funeral, but it doesn't really matter to me, because I won't be there.

I like giving flowers more than I like receiving them. I especially like to give roses - they are just classic. I give my sweetie either red or white. Sometimes I go for yellow or white daisies instead. Never carnations.

Oh, and my favorite flower is the Bird of Paradise flower. It's not on the list, so I don't know what that means about me.

I don't really prefer flowers because they do die. Not because I have the mentality of "Oh poor flower, it died for me," but more because I would rather have something that will last longer. I would rather be given a plant that I can keep alive and watch it grow rather than a handful of flowers that will be dead in a week. Of course, it does make me feel good when my guy brings me roses spontaneously. I won't deny that.
