The Typical Kryptonian

I wonder what The Typical Kryptonian is like physically and mentally? Do they have a heart and lungs as we do? How close to being human are they? Is their blood red? Would The Typical Kryptonian have powers on earth if they were to come without Jer-El's help?

Well, you can see Superman and know exactly how a Kryptonian looks like. They look like humans but with super-powers. I read in a site that in one of the comics they explained that humans can become like Kryptonians but because of an experiment done by another alien race this is not possible otherwise it would be easy for humans to become like them because human DNA's are not so different from a Kryptonian.

That alien race made it not possible by doing what? So, if humans are very similar to kryptonians, what are the differences besides the obvious?

As far as I know...(and I did know this, but this website says it so much better)

QUOTE
The main contributing factor to Kryptonian cells absorb certain wavelengths of the radiation emitted by solar fusion. Under a red sun, this yields increased abilities, which are multiplied a thousand-fold by a yellow sun. The solar energy supplements respiration, such that when cellular materials (perhaps Kryptonian ATP) combine with glucose, they produce abilities beyond those of humans under a yellow sun.

So essentially, the Kryptonian is a solar battery - naturally, more time "under the sun" allows Kryptonian to build up reserves that permit days of super-powered activity in the absence of sunlight. In addition, Krypton's gravity was 50-100 times stronger than Earth's, so Kryptonian cells are also much stronger and denser than a human's.

Under a yellow sun, other factors contribute to invulnerability. First, cell membranes and organelles become more resistant to harm; secondly, a bioelectric field surrounds the cells, making them thousands of times tougher. This "aura" surrounds Superman's epidermis and teeth, and possibly his nails as well. His hair is invulnerable, too. Superman has been shown shaving and presumably cutting his hair by reflecting his heat vision off of a piece of curved, reflective metal from the rocket in which he landed. In fact, any type of reflective metal will work as shown in the Time and Time Again story arc, Superman in Action comics #663 page 11. When his cells become "supercharged" under a yellow sun, a Kryptonian becomes super-powered. He is invulnerable to forces under 1 kt., and is harmed only by repeated blows of over 1 mt. His brain and nervous system keep up with his enhanced speed, as they too are amplified.

Superman's other senses are less linked to solar energy than his strength and speed. Due to Earth's thinner air, he can hear things no human can. Solar energy magnifies its accuracy, allowing him to fine-tune it. His taste, smell, and touch are equally acute. He sees all wavelengths, from radio to X-rays, allowing him to detect thermal trails and other "invisible" things.

Superman's cells store vast amounts of yellow solar energy. He replenishes his supply even on cloudy days, and weakens only after a week without sunlight. Near a red sun, his powers would fail faster. Kryptonite exposure also stops the process that converts yellow sunlight into superpowers, leaving Superman immediately weakened. His powers return quickly once the kryptonite is removed. In recent comics, Superman seems to be slowly building up immunity to kryptonite, and it is possible that its effect is in part psychological.

Earlier in his life, as in his battle with Doomsday, Superman's solar energy supply was depleted by exertion. More recent exertions caused less of a power drain, suggesting that he is now either storing more energy, or growing stronger under the yellow sun. It is unknown whether higher energy stars might increase his powers even more.

Which of course leads on to the question of Superman's immortality; if his cells are constantly regenerating, can he truly die.

Externally and more or less internally Humans and Kryptonians are the same. In the current continuity of comics, there are some differences if studied carefully and on the genetic level.

Humans and most humanoids of similar nature come from Kirby's New Gods seeding the universe. However this is a subject that DC comics does not seem to approach.

As per the previous poster: Quote: that humans can become like Kryptonians but because of an experiment done by another alien race this is not possible otherwise it would be easy for humans to become like them because human DNA's are not so different from a Kryptonian.

This concept has been eliminated from the curent DC comics continuity.

And to answer the last question: Every Kryptonian that makes it to Earth, or any higher energy sun system, will have super powers just like Superman. Of course, only two have ever made it to Earth.. Kal-el and his cousin, the new Super Girl.

[..] You seem two, forget that Zod, Ursa, and Num made it to earth as well or did you not see superman 2? All Kryptonians would have powers on earth and the more yellow suns they come across the stronger they become. Kryptonians have a limit [their] cells cannot handle more than two yellow sun's. This is do to in part by an extra gland in there chest. Krytonians like Jor-El comes to earth he would be a bit stronger cause his DNA has developed over a longer period. humans can still become like Kryptonians. There's 4 ways to actually doing so but I don't want to end up in area 51 if I actually mentioned them.
