Dubhdara Introduction - Page 2

So where do you live in Britain? How long have you lived there?

I lived near Cambridge for two years, and my wife was born in England, and grew up in England and Wales.

Introduction Dubhdara

Oh well, so much for turning on the email notification for topics I've started and repied to! Three responses and not one email wink.gif

I am from Hertfordshire near London. I've lived in Britain all my life.

I will update my profile.

Dubhdara - Dubhdara is a form of my first name and means "black oak" (Irish Gaelic), and signifies reliability and quiet strength (we won't say how much the two latter apply)

This IS in the FAQ board, but I will explain it here just because I am goodie laugh.gif

First of all, if you already replied to a message (without notification) then just clicking receive replies in your profile will not work for old messages - only for new. If you look on each thread (near the top) you will see... 'Track this Topic', click on that and it will save that for you.

Second, for the track topic to work automatically you have to click 'Reply' rather than use the quick box below messages.

JB,

Despite the learning curve I do recognise this is a very good forum service wink.gif

I meant to ask: Do you think having a Writers' forum would be a good idea? (perhaps narrowed into fiction or genres, non-fiction, etc?). I know quite a few writers, some LDS, some not...

Hmm..now how do I get credited for referals...

Dubhdara.

Introduction Dubhdara

We understand the learning curve. wink.gif Maybe if you elaborate more on what a 'Writer's forum' is then I can see to adding it, but then again maybe we have this already? Check for these boards on the Site Map:

Book, Novel, Comic, & Anime Reviews

LDS Authors, Musicians & Composers

Adult Poetry

By the way, there are boards hidden from your view that I believe you are worthy of seeing. I am going to adjust your status to mature so you can see them.

As far as how to get credit for referals:
https://www.bordeglobal.com/foruminv/index.php?showforum=139

Note: Make sure they use the exact link you gave them and that they immediately proceed to register in the same browser window.

Dubhdara Introduction

JB,

Thank you for the reply and info. I'm not sure if this is the way I am supposed to be communicating with you but I thought I remember reading somewhere that you didn't want PMs(?)

Anyway, I've found the "refer!" link and set it up.

I am not sure those forums you list were what I had in mind. The LDS authors is probably the nearest, but that's just for LDS.

Subjects/topics covered in a Writers' Forum (by the way, writers/authors might be looking for a web designer ):

writing tips
writing exercises
critiques
niche or genre topics (sci-fi, crime novels, how-to books etc)
worldbuilding
etc...

I wonder how it would be to post a newsletter on a forum post and have been feedback on it via that forum? Everyone would need ot be notified of the newsletter post of course.

Also, you could have a forum that allowed people to start a story and have other posters continue that story. Sort of like RPG but from a literary standpoint wink.gif

Long time ago I toyed around with the idea of running a strategic wargame on-line in a simple manner. Not sure you can do that on a forum but interesting to think about. How does your RPG game keep track of various attributes? Does the GM moderate the postings? How is it kept from going all over the place?

Thanks for the promotion in status wink.gif

(I put a note into my The Law download post for a Mod, hope someone saw it!)

What am I allowed to put in my currently empty signature? My website?

I've added my location in your new feature, though I would like to debate whether or not Britain is in Europe wink.gif

Thanks for all your great help,

Dubhdara.

It is fine, because it is your thread, plus you are just merely making suggestions, if it were about errors then I rather those by Email so I can index them. if it is something personal then by Email also. As a side note: No one on this forum can PM me, I turned it off. Use the contact page to get in touch with me.

As for your writers forum.... I am not sure how that would interplay with other forums we have here. For instance:

writing tips - Education board
writing exercises - Education board
critiques - Books & Novels
niche or genre topics (sci-fi, crime novels, how-to books etc) - Books & Novels
worldbuilding - Activisim & International News

If you are talking about a board just for writers only then I am wondering what the focus will be if they start writing about Iraq and other things elsewhere on this forum.

We already have this feature on the forum, see your profile 'Newsletters' or 'Subscriptions'. All newsletters are sent through me usually. I started it with an option for Mods to use it, but there isn't much interest at the moment.

We have this in the Jokes board, some threads have already been started like it. The Love & Life Bytes RPG is also like that since each poster adds messages in character.

I ensure it doesn't. Members only have access to cosmetic features and not stats.

A personal message, there is a place to add your web site in your profile. It appears as a button in all your posts.

Again, please do go through the FAQ board, all these things that you ask are answered there - I can assure you of that wink.gif
