I do know that foreclosed houses are often cheaper. Ours was a foreclosed home and we got it for a great deal. It needed some repairs but now the house is in a lot better shape since we put some TLC into it. I do not think I would have wanted to buy a newer home since even with repairs this one is costing us a lot less.

Renovating a home can be quite a chore even more so than building one up from scratch. The rewards are good but in the end you are still in the same neighborhood. One key thing is to make sure the rest of the homes are also being upgraded otherwise you will stand out like a sore thumb especially if most of your renovations are exterior.
