Are Government Id Systems Lawful? - Page 2

Tenahef,

History shows the problem. Governments cannot be trusted in perpetuity not to misuse that information.

I appreciate countries can and should make their own laws, but this does not mean those laws are right. If a country chose to legalise murder, for instance, it would not be right - it would be unlawful though it would, in that country, be legal.

Inalienable rights belong to mankind, all mankind. Not just US citizens or those under the protection of the Magna Carta.

I would also ask if licenses are just? A license exists to stop someone from entering into an activity or business by limiting either the number or placing arbitrary (government-determined) restrictions on the applicant.

Now, do I as an individual have the right to stop someone entering ino the profession of their choice? No. Do I have the right to stop them engaging in certain activities that are no immediate threat to my inalienable rights? No. So how can government possess this power if it can only have those powers that the governed give to it?

If it is doing something that individuals cannot do then it is acting unlawfully and this applies to licenses, ID cards and many other laws and regulations today.

(You raise a point against ID cards however, in that having multiple forms of ID (such as driver ids) are harder to fake than a single id. A database would make the fraud even more widespread as electronic data is soft data and open to a great deal more abuse than hard copies.)

Dubhdara.
