Las Vegas Indy 300
More than a dozen cars crashed in a fiery wreck at the Las Vegas Indy 300 on Sunday, injuring at least one driver.
Racing vet Dan Wheldon was airlifted from the track, according to video from the scene. His condition was not immediately known.
Championship contender Will Power and Rookie of the Year candidate JR Hildebrand were also involved in the 13-car crash, according to the official Twitter page of the IZOD IndyCar Series.
The race was halted after the wreck, and officials were in a closed-door meeting, according to IndyCar spokeswoman Denise Abbott.
Wheldon, a two-time Indy 500 winner, was in line to win $5 million if he captured the checkered flag at Sunday's race. Ref. CNN
It was a terrible accident and I know for sure they are going to have to think about what they can do to make driving in these races safer. Maybe there isn't much you can do at those speeds.
