I am considering buying a parcel of land on the moon. I know it sounds crazy but it might turn out to be a valuable investment for my kids/grandkids. What do you think?
You can take a look HERE
Interesting site... but, really, who owns the moon? Who has the right to sell it? All you get is a "nicely printed" certificate that you can hang on the wall, and your "purchase" is registered with this company and filed somewhere with the Library of Congress. Does that really give them the right to sell you an acre of moon?
If it were for real, I'd be interested to do it, but it sounds fishy to me. Who are these people?
I sent the company an e-mail today asking them the following questions:
1. Are the properties for sale zoned for spacecraft landing/takeoff
2. Does the owner of said properties have permission to mine any minerals and/or precious metals that may be deposited there.
3. Can the land be resold to a third party.
4. Is there any restrictions as to type/size of dwellings and is the land zoned residential or commercial.
If i receive a response from these people I will post it.
Too bad we will never know the answer to Mr.Wong's Email, but at the same time I wonder Who's right is it to give or sell the moon? Unless the US is claiming it theirs because they stepped on it first? (Although that is under debate in the 'Man On The Mon - Yeah Right' thread).
Well, I would have thought if the US really did land on the moon, it would own it, since usually when someone planted his flag on unclaimed land, it would belong to him or at least his government. Though according to International Space Law, the moon belongs to no one. (https://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1430/is_n6_v15/ai_13509019)
I actually bought an acre on the moon, but I know that I don't really have anything. International treaty states that no country can claim ownership of the night sky (perhaps not in so simply). I bought it for bragging rights mainly, if anyone want to dispute my claim its alot of internet research to disprove my claim and most people just aren't up for it. If you're looking for an investment don't bother with the moon, but if your just looking for something fun then by all means- maybe your acre will be beside mine.

I tried the link at the top of the discussion but couldn't get it to work. How much are we talking about to purchase an acre of land on the moon? Who is listed as the seller? I would have to agree with the consensus in this discussion that until someone has undisputable rights to the moon (which I don't think has been done yet) then no one else should have the right to sell it. Especially if we're talking about a substantial amount of money.
