Title: Attempted Mugging in Westmoorings

Comments: On Friday, May 17, 2013 my wife, mother-in-law, and myself we attacked by a gang of 5 men after leaving the Hi-Lo. We were physically assaulted and an attempt was made on my life by one of the men yielding a knife. We fought off the attack and my wife and mother-in-laws screams for help attracted attention allowing us to flee our attackers.

As a Trinidadian living abroad, I was excited to return home to attend my cousin's wedding. This was to be my mother-in- law's first visit to Trinidad.

Needless to say, we were very traumatized by the attack and cut our vacation short by three days for fear of repeat attacks by the gang.

Very sad and disappointed to experience first-hand that crime in Trinidad is still rampant and out of control.

Foreigners beware visiting Trinidad! Stay away from the island unless absolutely necessary. Trinidad is lawless and very dangerous, even for returning citizens.

I'm so sorry about what happened to you. It makes me angry when I read cases like this because it could have been me or one of our relatives or a friend. I don't know if crime is ever going to go down to the level where everyone feels safe.

As most of you know, I live in West Moorings. Craig, I'm very sorry to read about your experience but this is not common here in the West. I would like to know more such as what time this incident took place, etc. You're talking about 5 people, it seems to me that this is more than just an attempt robbery. sad.gif

I too am sorry to hear of your experience here in Trinidad. To me crime here is a hit or miss. If it hits, it hits hard but you can live here and it may never happen to you like myself. It's still unsafe though.

Title: Mugged in Westmoorings

Comments: On May 17, 2013, my daughter, son-in-law and I (67 yr. Woman) were chased down the street and mugged by 5 thugs. We were walking on the main road after going to Hi-lo in broad daylight! The ring leader pulled a butcher knife on son-in-law and one tried to grab my purse. When he went to get the knife to stab me, I threw a cup of Sprite in his face and got away. Craig, being from Trinidad, began yelling at them and he got away. All this while my daughter was screaming for help. Thank God we were not harmed. It will be a cold day in hell before I step foot in that corrupt, dangerous island and we will tell everyone we meet not to go there.

Joy, I'm very sorry about your experience. It seems to me that you was specifically targeted. Meaning, these people either know you from before or they were checking your movements from the time you was in Hi-Lo and you didn't notice.

Comments: No, they had never seen any of us before... First time in Trinidad. They came out of a run down area when we walked past that area. I think the main thug was training a new crew, so watch out.

They came out of a run down area...

A run down area in Westmoorings? You said you were passing by Hi-Lo, were you heading East or West? If East then you mean you were attacked by Cocorite which technically is not Westmoorings. If you were heading West then probably you were attacked in Pt. Cumana which again is not Westmoorings because Westmoorings does not have any run down areas.
