Godfrey Lamont

Witnesses said an unmasked gunman walked up to Godfrey Lamont as he was alighting from a car on Calcutta Street around 12.15 p.m. And shot him several times in the face.

He is said to have died instantly.

Lamont, an insurance broker, of Savannah Villas, Aranjuez, was outside his businessplace, Sterling Financial Centre, when he was shot.

Comments: Myself and Godfrey sat side by side in the class at QRC and were the best of friends. Although I migrated a few years after school we kept in touch and I would visit him every time I returned to Trinidad. Mostly I would see him at clients advisery executives and on other occasions at his home.in my last four visits I had not seen him and did not think too much of it because I was busy constructing a home and planning my eventual return ,thinking I would catch up with Godfrey when I was settled back in Trinidad. I knew about the crime situation in Trinidad but was told that it does not affect the average person who is not involved in the subculture. Well this is certainly shocking and unfortunate as the scourge has now hit home for me. This gentleman was so dedicated to work and family as I saw it looking in, that it was enviable. He was that way from school days. Its sad for me even though its years after the fact. And I do sympathize with his family. In spite of the violent demise he had I will be saying a prayer for my friend and my country .because I do hope he will RIP sincerely.

Comments: Its a rather sad case and send my condolences .This sort of crime is taking place almost every day here My advice to you is to stay where you are. I made the same move and regretted it. This is now a haven for murderers, kidnappers and various other serious criminals. Stay clear.
