In a High Court ruling against Ian Alleyne, he will have to pay $630,000 to Sammy for remarks made on the Crime Watch show. The interesting thing is Ian Alleyne did not put in a defense so the judgement was made in his absence.

Title: Crime reporting tv shows

Comments: The problem here because there is so much crime here, the public has become immunized. Crime watch and shows such as this displaying local criminal acts are therefore now treated as entertainment and are not taken seriously. Moreover after watching some on these programmes interest in such matters become less of importance. They really make little difference to the crime scenario here. Generally speaking general citizens are fully aware of what is going on with regards to criminal acts on this island ,and most are well guarded against becoming a victim.

Comments: At the end of the day we have to see what the effects of this show has on the overall crime scenario ,and looking at the state of the present situation despite an earnest effort by the presenter, crime Watch has made not one iota of difference to our situation. By the way it looks like were heading for another annual murder rate of over 400 this year and ,as for kidnappings the police have lost count .There are just too many. Its far easier to say we don't have this crime on this island anymore. Save adding up eh?

He did not put a defense because perhaps he did not have any? I will be very interested in seeing if he will pay.

Alleyne Ian Watch Crime

Lots of bacchanal surrounds Ian Alleyne being arrested by his former friend Inspector Alexander today at a crime scene. It seems that the police were already visiting the location of the crime when Ian Alleyne turned up with his camera man and tried to access the area. Inspector Alexander told him he could not enter and accused Ian Alleyne of using obscene language against him. At that point inspector Alexander manhandled and shoved Ian Alleyne against a car. Ian Alleyne was arrested and detained but no charges have yet been laid.

Title: Arrest of Mr Alleyne

Comments: The picture in the Guardian newspaper depict a nation controlled by ruthless military styled police. Was it really necessary to hand cuff Mr Alleyne a well known law abiding public figure who was said to have committed a minor offence?. This is really going over the top where the enforcement of law and order is concerned. Complete madness by a senior police officer demonstrating a false sense of security ,and thus causing public resentment and unnecessary anxiety. Whatever went on here is rather strange .There must have been some form of deliberate antagonism which led to Mr Alleyne alleged abusive language. It would now appear that most of those in authority on this island are hell bent on destroying the fabric of any process of decent democratic principles and procedures that are still in existence here.

Comments: George, if a police officer is telling you that you cannot enter a specific place because an investigation is being conducted and you refuse, then be prepared for the outcome. The police has all the right to handcuff you if you refuse to follow those instructions because you are now interfering with police's work.

There must have been some form of deliberate antagonism which led to Mr. Alleyne alleged abusive language? Seriously? Since when we justify these sort of acts?

Why we cannot just accept the fact that Alleyne was wrong and strong about it and paid for the consequences for those actions?

Title: RE-The arrest of Mr Alleyne and the police

Comments: In my opinion a local police officer’s job involves general law enforcement duties especially on patrol. Local police should patrol hot spots areas of this island regularly under a planned schedule. On duty, patrol officers should look for violations of the law. They should conduct traffic stops, charge or issue severe warnings to to speeders or other road traffic offenders. They have the authority (And should use it regardless of the offenders colour, class or creed) to stop citizens suspected of illegal activity and investigate or monitor suspicious citizens. When they identify a suspect or criminal, they pursue and arrest the person. The local policemen must bear in mind that because they are wearing the police uniform, they’re visible representatives of law enforcement. Including in their responsibilities is the promoting of community relations while on the job. This is something very much lacking on this island. They should not harass law abiding citizens merely to demonstrate their power of authority as appeared in the case of Mr Alleyne.
