John Whitmer's Great-great-granddaughter

"A woman at the other end of the line introduced herself as Dr. Lorene Pollard, the great, great, granddaughter of John Whitmer. Having heard that I had written a travel guide concerning Church history sites in Missouri, Dr. Pollard wondered if she might add some additional insights. After that first call, a year's worth of phone conversations had to pacify my intense desire to meet her in person.

Last October, my husband and I finally had the opportunity to spend several hours with Lorene at her home. She told us stories, answered questions, and drove through the Far West area with us, pointing out where several Whitmer structures-including John Whitmer's home-once stood. John passed away while living here. Still vivid are Lorene's memories associated with John's home and family stories passed down from generation to generation. Lorene has been blessed with a family legacy steeped in early Church history..."

I really enjoyed this article. Thanks for sharing it. It is remarkable to me, that not only did John Whitmer never recant his story but his decendants were always made aware of his early Church involvement and it remained a source of pride to them. I am sure he is rejoicing over the members of his family who have accepted the gospel.

No problem, I also feel the same way you do. She must feel so proud of her grandfather. Also it shows you that no matter how you may think your relatives are going to accept the Gospel, everytime a soul is converted, it is a miracle.
