The US military must have some kind of benefits since so many men and women join the forces, with such low salaries and having their lives in risk, why in the world they will want to do a job like that?.

Well LDS , people have different reasons for joining the military. With me it's a pride thing. I come from a miltary family , it's like a tradition. My father retired with 26 years in the Army and served in Vietnam. I also have an uncle that retired with 20 plus years and also served in vietnam. Look at the ex - NFL football star , who turned his back on a 3 million dollar contract. He turned it down to become an Army Ranger. Unfornately , he was was killed recently in a firefight in Afghanistan. I salute him for the pride and courage he displayed. Other people join because they have nothing else. People come from all walks of life in the military. I have a soldier now from Boston. The judge gave him an option.Either go to jail or join the Army. So you see , the Army can turn a persons life around. I personally think the Army has geat benefits. How many people have you met are retired at age of 38. Most people join when they are 18 and do 20 years and retire. Now yes the retirement pay is not enough to live on alone. But it sure can pay my monthly house payments. And then at 38 , which is still young. I would get another job and live a nice life. My father is about to retire from his second job. Now I could see myself doing that.
Another major reason people join is the on the job training they will get and the invaluable experience. If you don't plan to go to college or you just aren't really ready for college, the military is a great option. Most who join don't stay past that first enlistment so it is between 2 - 4 years that you are in. A lot of reservists join for the educational benefits. Unless you are in a time of war, like we are now, it is a great life, which is why people join and then stay in as well. If you are stationed in a low cost area and your spouse also works (best if she is actually in the military) you can do pretty well once you gain some rank.

Okay, so I suppose you have to be a US citizen first of all and then go to a very hard physical test or something of that kind? (I don't know if I watched too many movies or what but I see the tranining is really hard)

No you don't have to be a American citizen. My wife of Trinidad use to be in the U.S. Army. If your not an American citizen. You just can't hold jobs that require secret clearance. And if you want to join , you will need a high school diploma or a G.E.D. Then take the ASVAB test. Which consist of Math , Reading Comprehension , Mechanical Skills , and I believe GENERAL Knowledge. It's been so long since I took that test. And you must pass a physical and meet the weight and height standards.

I was involved in communications. The minimum (radar operator) was Secret. Almost all communications jobs require TS or higher, since the comm people have to go into the most secure areas to maintain equipment.
