Honestly, if this Moqtada al-Sadr can tear apart the government if he is not satisfied, there is no real democracy in Iraq as he is obviously the one in charge.

Is there any real democracy anywhere in the Middle East? Iraq has been under a dictatorship far too long. They also have the element of religion is State which is for me a deadly combination because it means ruler ship without logic or fairness.

Should have chosen my words better as there are very few democracies anywhere in the world - even the US.

However, it should at least be a republic. Turkey is probably the best example of what I would hope for in Iraq and Afghanistan. It isn't perfect (no government is) but it is accepting and there still is a great deal of religion within the government.

If the US ever leaves Iraq I foresee a full scale civil war there almost instantaneously that is why I think the US will virtually never leave because there is too much oil interests there to be held for ransom.

Secret Tony Blair and George Bush Iraq letters were kept out of official records:

A transcript of evidence given behind closed doors by Matthew Rycroft, the former prime minister's private secretary, and released by the inquiry yesterday shows that references to the notes, sent in the year running up to the March 2003 invasion, were removed from official records Ref. Source 5

Securing the oil would make sense but to think we are profiting off it is quite a bit off. The idea was that we would recover the cost of the war through the sale of oil, but the poor repair of the facilities and wells themselves have pretty much negated that...it will cost the US taxpayer over 1 Trillion dollars (current amount) for this war.

I agree with Vincenzo I think the argument of the oil already faded. I don't think the US will completely leave Iraq there still a lot of tension in the zone.

Iraq diverts F-16 budget for food rations:

Iraq has postponed the planned purchase of 18 F-16 fighter planes from the United States this year and diverted the funds to feeding the poor, an official said on Monday, amid growing protests that have been inspired by the uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia. Ref. Source 6
