Five U.S. Service members were killed today in Iraq. It;'s the single largest loss of life among U.S. Troops in Iraq in months.
The military did not immediately say how or where the five died. But two Iraqi security officials said the service members were killed during an early morning mortar attack at a U.S. Military base in southeastern Baghdad. Ref. CNN
Missing Iraqi Billions 'Probably Stolen'
By Paul Richter
US defence officials still cannot say what happened to $US6.6 billion ($6.3 billion) of the cash. Federal auditors are now suggesting that some or all of the cash may have been stolen, not just mislaid in an accounting error. Ref. Source 3
Yeah, just the other day I was moving my sofa cushions and found 6.6 billion USD that I had accidentally mislaid. Funny, that I thought it might feel a little uncomfortable sitting on that much cash but it was nice to find it. It is inspiring stories like these that just instill such great confidence in my country's fiscal responsibilities and ability to pull ourselves out of our life threatening debt.
Iraq didn't ask for us to come over there. While there are many that have benefited from both side with the ouster of Hussien, if the US wanted repayment, we should have gotten it before we turned it back over or made it part of the conditions of handover. So for all those that believe this was for the US to get a bunch of oil, we have done a horrible job at plundering the country or that wasnt the goal to begin with. So honestly, I have to agree with the Iraqi government's response to the congressman's suggestion.
