The United States military has conducted airstrikes on ISIS targets and airdropped humanitarian aid to the besieged residents in the Iraqi town of Amerli, the Pentagon says.

Australia, France and the UK also participated in the aid drop.

ISIS fighters have besieged the town of Amerli, 70 miles north of Baquba, since the Sunni extremists swept into Iraq from Syria in mid-June. Its 17,400 residents are enduring harsh living conditions with severe food and water shortages, and are without power. Ref. CNN

Just like Vietnam and Korea, the US should have never invaded Iraq in the first place. It was just a waste of lives.

Want to know something funny? It's always the President and Senators who decide to go to war. Yet, it's always the American soldiers who put their lives on the line. Maybe if the President and Senators were forced to fight on the front lines and experience war first hand, then they'll finally get smart enough to stay out of wars?

If you ask the typical Iraqi why Americans invaded Iraq they will simply tell you "Oil". It wasn't about WMD or Saddam or even Kuwait.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday to endorse the new Iraqi government hours before President Barack Obama will address the American people about his strategy for combating ISIS militants.

Baghdad is Kerry's first stop on a regional tour to enlist Arab support for a global coalition to defeat ISIS.

"Almost every single country on Earth has a role to play in eliminating the ISIL threat and the evil that it represents," Kerry told reporters Monday on the eve of his departure, using an acronym for the group, which now calls itself the Islamic State.

Kerry said the United States would assemble a coalition "Built to endure for the months, and perhaps years, to come." Ref. CNN
