:spock: Oh? Americans believed so huh? I wonder how Bush tried to stop them believing that Saddam had something to do with Sept. 11th?

I have mentioned before my admiration and appreciation about the Peace Corps and like organizations, which truly help build and enhance the friendly and helpful image of the American people.

Looks like finally Bush saw the light, (or maybe he read my post here  ;)  ).

On a more serious note, people are hungry and no jobs. No weapons of mass destruction and thus a war happened that probably did not need to happen? Or at least not in the way it did? First I will place the latest news....

Violence broke out in parts of the Iraqi capital Wednesday morning, after a
group of men attempting to apply for jobs at a Baghdad police station were
turned away.

:spock: Now here is Bush's solution for crisis as reviewed by ABCNews:

The President's request is one of the largest military/reconstruction aid packages in U.S. history. We wanted to see what Iraqis (and Americans) will get for their money. Nightline correspondent Chris Bury reports tonight on what's in the $87 billion. Each day we hear more stories about how the electricity, water and infrastructure of Iraq are taking forever to rebuild. Some of it is as the result of sabotage, but many of the problems are being blamed on the lack of a U.S. plan. U.S. troops have been in Iraq for nearly seven months and Iraqis complain about how long it's taking to secure the country and get things working again. Here's a sample of how the request breaks down: $13 billion to rebuild roads, get power up and get the oil and water flowing again. And a few items that are raising some eyebrows: $100 million for an Iraqi witness protection program, $150 million for a new children's hospital-Laura Bush feels strongly about that-and $400 million for 2 new prisons ($50,000 per bed).

The President had been hoping for some help from our friends around the world, but he didn't come back with much in his pocket. The basic message seemed to be: You went it alone in the war, you're not willing to let the U.N. help run the reconstruction, so you're on your own to fund it as well. $66 billion of the total is for military deployment and few argue with that figure. The battle is over the $20 billion for the reconstruction effort that has the Democrats-from the presidential candidates to senators and representatives-screaming about how the administration wasn't honest about what would be needed before the war and now that the figure is out, how are Americans going to pay for this. One idea that's come up: the President's latest tax cuts. They add up to more than $87 billion.

I agree. Looking to be more and more like 'a war that probably did not need to happen'. But since it has happened, there is nothing we can do to bring back the dead and to undo the event but at least the US must have the courage and decency now to make right a wrong.
Try humility first. Bash someone on the head and then demand it's their obligation to give you the necessary help and money! Geez! That's what Bush did at the UN General Assembly. A little more humble attitude will do wonders.

Fireduck, the USA is asking a lot of countries to send troops to Iraq but they don't want to give up any power in the process *shaking head* is not going to work well at all in my opinion. All counsels and suggestions of France and other countries were not taking into consideration...so why the rest of the world should send troops now? to correct the USA's mistakes???????!!!!!!!!!!!

LDS, from what I read in the news, I think the Bush administration is not committed to a long term solution to the Afghan or Iraq situation, but it is actually trying to find a 'honorable' exit strategy. They need some sucker nations' troops to cover their backsides as they 'pull' out. Of course, they will say they are 'sharing the authority' but in actuality, the US are cutting losses. BUT, control and power, especially in reaping the economic  harvests is a different story. The US will never give that part up. They want payback and the only way is to have a US-friendly puppet regime in place. Are the Iraqis going to allow the puppet regime to be set up? I doubt it.

A lot of nations are now saying, in effect, " you created this mess against our advice, now you clean it up yourself ".

Exactly! I think this is the kind of attitude most countries should have...why we should allow to send our men and women and put them in risk of death just because the USA didn't plan this whole thing properly?. Its very unfair in my opinion.
