Or until a change in the presidency which may come sooner than Bush is thinking.

Yes, but who as a President? an Iraqi person you mean?. I heard also in the news that most Iraqis don't think they're ready for democracy yet because of all the killings going on every day.

No, I meant the US policy to stay in Iraq may change when the US gets a new president - the next election is only a year away and I think Bush may lose because of the economy - or he may have to change his policy to get re-elected.

Oh okay, I gotcha. I thought Americans in general think he's going to win the elections again. I personally think he will lose because of all this war against Iraq and the taxes money they're using.

Actually, the war on terror is the one thing most Americans support the President on.  The economy in general is what will likely be his downfall - although they tell us that is improving the job loss still tends to concern people

Iraq War Post

The Republican plan was simple ... to get bush 4 more years...
Take Iraq...   Get Oil pumping out of Iraq, to his cronies, before Spring 2004...
The US Economy will rebound, from the influx of oil,  and then as always if the economy is good...
He will get reelected...
Simple...
well, the Iraq people are going to say alittle about that...
They most likely don't realize that blowing up the pipe lines of oil
will prevent Bushes reelection...

You are certainly welcome to your opinion.  However, the facts don't really support you.

The vast majority of Iraqi people (over 70%) are thrilled beyond reason.  Their biggest complaint about us coming in to get rid of Hussein was, "why did you wait so long?"

The vast majority of Iraqi people want a US style government.  They know that they will experience a type of personal liberty they haven't known for over 3 decades.  Actually, they already do.

Under US control, they already have a much better, stronger infrastructure than they every have.  More schools are up and running, more areas of the country have electricity, and more people have sufficient food than has been available for decades.

Our successes in Iraq far outnumber the failures.  Yes, US military are being killed, but mostly by Syrian, Iranian, Saudi, terrorists imports.  A few Baath sympathizers are fighting, but they are failing, and they know it.  It is desperation, not hope.

My biggest question now, is whether or not they will actually put into place a government that is really independent and allows personal liberty.  If not, then they will return to the oppressive type of regime that is the rule throughout the Islam world.

You are right... I was only thinking of the US perspective...
Having spent some time in the eastern med I think you are right...
and I hope they (the Iraq People) will be better off...
I was only thinking of President Bushes and the Republican needs...
and his (bush's) lack of focus or knowledge of the situation...
and our (us) inability to do what we say or to tell the truth...

Nighthawk

Your points directly reflect the US policy line... and the
belief that what they tell us is the truth...
Having spent time in the US Navy in a helicopter squadron...
Flying 'Flag' and staff, over-hearing conversations ....
Knowing that they lied so many times when I was there....
I only know that means they are most likely bending the
truth now...  'to protect us'???
It still looks to me like a bid to get our appointed president
another term...   not a genuine effort to free the Iraqi people...
I truly believe it has only to do with 'Oil' and 'Politics'
Iraqi oil and US politics...   if the oil arrives here by spring
it will mean that Bush will win the election... Money in the economy
equals reelection...   as we (the US people)
are only interested in our selves... and our SUV's having gas...

You tell me,,, VP chaney was having talks about Iraqi Oil with
the big oil producers before 9/11...   (freedom of information act
releases from this summer) now that seems odd and I'm not a conspiracy buff...

But, again I must say 'You are right' about the facts we 'hear'...
and I only hope they (the Iraqi people) really are glad... and will be better off for it.

I would like to think that ....
But, truly the evidence points elsewhere...   It's a classic magician trick...
Look over here while they palm the coin... or the presidency...

You do realize that, that is what they always say...
they are thrilled beyond belief to have an occuping army
on their land...   When Saigon fell they were still saying
the same thing... that they wanted us there...
couldn't believe that they wanted there own freedom...
not ours...
