There is such a deep and abiding hatred of the West- not caused by the US, I might add- that it may indeed, never happen. |

I recently heard that some sporadic fighting is taking place once again and troops had to move in again. I believe this will happen constantly. The showing of so many Iraqi's protesting the US presence will not help in the unification process. Thus, the poll above becomes even more relevant.
From CNN:
IRAQIS FLOOD INTO KARBALA
Exuberant Shiite Muslim pilgrims are surging into the central Iraqi city of
Karbala, reviving a religious tradition that was not allowed under Saddam
Hussein's rule.

This world likes to sterotype o much, even if you agree or not you are a target based on some hate crime.
FAKE HATE EMAILS MAR REPUTATIONS
Arab-American activist Nawar Shora checked his e-mail one day and found scores
of angry messages asking why he hated Americans and Jews. The messages were
responding to e-mails marked as coming from him. Only one big problem: Shora
never sent the hate mail.

I just heard that the Head of the United Nations said that the USA and Britain used 'false documents' in the presentation they gave to the UN to prove Iraq has weapons of mass destruction. He said that the sources were of 'doubtful' nature including 'false' documents.

:spock: The following is from an ABC News correspondant:
Why did we go to war with Iraq? Saddam was a cruel dictator, no question,
and the Iraqi people are far better off without him. But there are a
number of evil regimes around the world, some we deal with on a regular
basis, and we're not going to war to remove them. Weapons of mass
destruction? The U.S. clearly believes that Saddam's Iraq had them, and
the search continues. But North Korea has nuclear weapons, so do a number
of other countries. Far more have chemical or biological weapons. And
we're not going to war with them either. Again, a valid concern, but are
there other reasons as well?

Do you all think the US underestimated the strength of resurgence of the Shites in Iraq, and it may be a force that the US may not be able to control? And an Islamist state .... isn't that more dangerous than a secular one? For example the Taliban, and maybe Iran, especially immediately after the Ayatollah Khomeini took over power back in 1979 (?).
