When I first posted in this thread I firmly believed in what Bush was doing. Since reading more information about it and now understanding the reality of what is happening now, I no longer agree with the War in Iraq.
Now that we have effectually combed the country, we know they had no weapons of mass destruction, they had to no weapons that where any treat to us, and they didn't support Al Queda. In fact, we now know that Bin Laden and Hussein hated each other, that Bin Laden considered dictatorship an act of the infidel. So why then did we go in. The answer may be worse than the war.
Now, we have created a state for the terrorists to thrive in and freely roam. The people do not like us and are joining the ranks to get us to leave. Its nice to see a few people shaking the hands of soldiers and thanking them, but it accounts for little when the same child walks into a barricade and blows himself up. I thoroughly disagree with this war now. The war is not post as the President would like us to believe, it is still happening, just with different people. As war death totals for our American soldiers rise to near epic proportions, one cant help but be against this war. To many Americans dying for a cause that never was. Remember, we went in because of WMD's and terrorists. Without those two, we had no reason to be there.

The above link not only gives body counts, but gives amounts of death and sources for each incident causing the deaths. The sources range from cnn.com to reuters. This isn't an exaggeration, its reality. This war has gotten way out of hand, but there is nothing to be done about it. In this state, the people would be left to a brutal civil war in which we would be blamed for too. Now, we are stuck in a war with no good solution and no real end in site. To bad for us the American people, we realized the truth to little to late.

I think Iraq's history over the past 15 years has been nothing short of criminal. The way the West have treated that country because of one lunatic dictator the West helped get into power is sad. Yet again it is the innocent who will suffer the legacy of Saddam, Bush Snr, Clinton, Blair and now Bush again.
I agree with Konquerez that this war was illegitimate and it is refreshing that people are realising the truth.
I just pray the Coalition doesn't cut and run, and leave that country with a power vacuum. Now that the coalition has created a mess, it is their responsibility to clean it up. It's a difficult situation though, because foreign forces are fuelling the insurgency.

Of late I have noticed an increase in soldier death counts across the media. Now that the '2,000' number is passed they seem to be mentioning it extra these days as though 2,000 is an ultimatum, climax or plateau; regardless, Pres. Bush is still zealous in the march:
Bush: Support War
President Bush tried Tuesday to begin reviving U.S. support for the war in Iraq and reinvigorating his troubled presidency as the U.S. military death toll topped 2,000. "I know this is a trying time for our military spouses," Bush said at a Joint Armed Forces Officer Wives' luncheon at Bolling Air Force Base. "We've lost some of our nation's finest men and women in the war on terror."
"And the best way to honor the sacrifice of our fallen troops is to complete the mission and lay the foundation of peace by spreading freedom," he said.

I think one soldier dying in this war is tragic let alone 2,000. But you make a good point about the need for a milestone.
It is interesting how so much hype has been generated about that milestone and yet hardly anyone in the Western media reports on, or cares about, the 10s of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians that have been killed.
I guess the old adage one US life is worth several middle eastern lives when determining what makes news is true. It certainly appears to be that way on Australia.
Can anyone inform me on how popularity for the war in the US is trending? We keep getting reports the anti-war movement is gaining a lot of momentum.

I remember some pages ago that there was a post by the News bot about most troops being able to go home for Christmas, but that has seemingly changed:
RUMSFELD HINTS AT MORE TROOPS IN IRAQ
Coming off one of the deadliest months for American troops, Defense Secretary
Donald H. Rumsfeld indicated that the number of U.S. forces in Iraq could rise
temporarily as Iraqis prepare to vote in mid-December parliamentary elections.
