QUOTE
New general speaks bluntly of Iraq war

"We will have to share the burdens and move forward together. If we can do that and if we can help the people of Iraq, the prospects of success are good," he said. "Failing that, Iraq will be doomed to continued violence and civil strife."
Ref. https://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070210/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

So the question now is... will the 21,000 extra troops cause a turn in the current tide of Iraq or will see the latter as the general says... continued violence and strife. Sorry to be negative, but I see the later. Why you may ask? You cannot force a people with a certain culture to change from one thing to another - it just does not work and we see evidence of that today.

If this is what they have learned to date about how to deal with potential explosive devices, you could send 250,000 troops over there with equal amounts of instruction manuals and it still just isn't going to be enough...

The truly sad part about this "Beavis and Butthead find a Bomb" episode is that these were trained units with weapons. This was so close to becoming a Darwin Award winner for the year!

Well, it seems like Blair has seen an end to British involvement now that Bush's plans for increasing troops has failed. It is too bad that Blaor only acts based on outcomes / decisions of the US. I wonder if necessary would the US be such a great ally?

UK SETS IRAQ PULLOUT TIMETABLE

British Prime Minister Tony Blair plans to withdraw nearly half of his country's 7,200 troops from Iraq by the end of 2007, according to media reports. How will the British timetable affect the situation on the ground in Iraq?

The US will be crazy to remain for much longer with a UK pullout happening so soon.

Wow, then Prince Harry will not really have the chance to go to Iraq? I read his group is heading there and he is very excited about fighting for his country. I never understand how can someone feel excited about fighting in a war. spock.gif

Prince Harry is to be sent to serve in Iraq, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed. See: BBC

It is so funny because the PM has announced that the British troops will be pulled out very soon and now they decide to send Prince Harry to Iraq - so now he will be going just to return very soon as well - how convenient.

These kinds of things cause even more hatred of the US. Yes, they are isolated and do happen on both sides given opportunity, but in the Arab world such things are given heightened publicity.
