Prostitution is the oldest employment according to many, but do you think it should be legal? Many say what they do with their body is up to them, what say you and give specific statements to backup your position.

Protitution is a statement about society especially if it is prevelant. You have on one side men with lusting desires for physical gratification and on the other hand you have women with no choice but to satisfy those men for the sake of the alighty dollar. Maybe not in all instances are women doing it because they have no choice, but you know most women do it because they can't get other work. I don't think any right thinking woman would let some stranger enter her body just for the heck of it. Can prostitution be stopped, never! Should it be regulated, probably, but then that's like putting a stamp of approval on it. The thing about it is that prostitution isn't as upfront as you think, it's not so black and white. Check out those young chics, usually models or actresses that follow their passion for money by marrying an eighty year old guy or a guy that's ugly as sin. Take away the money and where is the chic? You can't tell me that's love, oh please give me a break.

Self respect is what need to be taught .Not to lay on your back for a dollar. Hit the books and be all you can be using your mind and skills and [..] grace!

Looking at it from a purely monetary sense, there are few jobs that pay that well per hour and require no education. Being a stripper is also potentially lucrative dpending on ones looks and it would be hard to make that same kind of money in another vocation. There in lies the reason that the "profession" will be around forever. There is a demand and there are suppliers for that demand and the money is right for the trade.

Yes, there are some that are truly forced into it as they are "owned" by others. However, to make this seem as though this is the majority, we would be gulible at best. There are many that do it because working fast food for 6-8 bucks an hours isnt all that desirable. Now, I am viewing this from a US Citizen perspective, which definitely clouds my opinion as there are other countries that the "profession" is much less a choice.

I just feel that a person that lets themselves get into the buying or selling end of this transaction too often will find they become slowly but surely morally bankrupt over time and unfortunately...there is no stimulus package for this sort of bankruptcy.

On one hand, I can see the advantages for Prostitution being legalised, however on the other hand, it worries me that we are saying this is normal. I understand that it is a choice. If we want to ruin our lives, then lets either (a) be a prostitution or (cool.gif go to one. The immoral stand is getting so skewed these days, I wonder if we should just have no rules, no grounds to teach our children. Little Betty tells her mum and dad she wants to be a hooker, if its legalised, we can't stand in her way.

We are not naive enough to realise there is a huge underage prositution ring out there. Do we legalise this? If Prostitution is legalised, what should be the age limit? 18? 21? What is too young?

There are so many 'types' of prostitution, from brothels, to escorts to high class pros, to the drugged out pro on the corner. For these men and women (because lets not forget the male prostitutions), should we legalise prostitution to help them fund their drug habits?

I think that most people see legalizing it as a way to regulate it. In this way people who are in this profession can seek legal counsel, get medically tested / protected and then that will also eliminate pimps and other third party leeches. The other mind set is that it is better to have the law protecting prostitutes because it will never stop.

My view is if this is what a person wants to do then that's up to them. What I think needs to be done is have it organized where the participants are tested regularly. They should also be part of an established place where there is security and screenings so its safe.

I don't buy the argument that legalizing it means we are supporting a drug habit. A junkie will do anything to get a fix. If it isn't prostitution it will be robbery or whatever.

This is from an earlier post in this thread;

international QUOTE
The government had considered making brothels an exception on moral grounds, but decided that it would be too difficult to distinguish them from bars. As a result, job centres must treat employers looking for a prostitute in the same way as those looking for a dental nurse.

I almost fell off my chair laughing from it all.

With the economy the way it is professions like prostitution, call girls and plain old strippers are becoming more popular. Worst is these women often get on the drugs so they are now forced to keep up with all at a faster pace and they end up sick or dead.
