I was recently watching the version of "Are Friends Electric?" where they are acting, but I notice for Numan it seemed 'natural' to have this odd lost uncharismatic look. For a second I thought it had some autistic traits and then later I read he has Asperger's Syndrome:

I still listen to Gary Newman's Are Friends Electric but the classic version not the modern interpretation. It is still as good today as it was then although back then I didn't pay as much attention to it.
