Pure Intelligence

[Research] Pure Intelligence

This is a very interesting topic and one that is often misunderstood. I know God wishes that all could be Prophets and that we all could be ready to receive His mysteries... I wonder what stops us? Maybe nothing , but ourselves? What are your thoughts?

QUOTE
"A person may profit by noticing the first intimation of the spirit of revelation; for instance, when you feel pure intelligence flowing into you, it may give you sudden strokes of ideas, so that by noticing it, you may find it fulfilled the same day or soon; . . . those things that were presented unto your minds by the Spirit of God, will come to pass; and thus by learning the Spirit of God and understanding it, you may grow into the principle of revelation, until you become perfect in Christ."

(Joseph Smith, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, 151)

This is really something to think about. In general, I believe human nature is such that we can't be perfect in this life, hence the need for a savior, but yet, why not? Now, to be a prophet you don't need to even be perfect so, again why can't we all be that good? I think the answer lies in the unique experiences we have in life, as well as what we did in the pre-existance, as well.

None of us start out at the same point in life. We do not start on an even playing field. We have different pre-existance histories, which I believe has a bearing on the strengths and weaknesses as well as challenges we face in life. Then we are born to different families under different circumstances which we must all then work from. So, someone born to "goodly parents" probably has a head start on becoming a prophet than one who is raised around a bunch of evil. That person needs to learn first that what they have been taught is wrong and then work on building that knowledge. Someone born to faithful parents at least learns of the truth from an early age. It is true that they must then carry the ball forward themselves, but their foundation is more secure than the other person.

In the end, I do believe we keep ourselves from perfection, but I am not sure it is because we just don't try hard enough.

I think that pretty much covers it, but mainly because most of us (and I include "me" in that "us") don't understand the concept. I know I did not understand it before, and that was probably a major cause of my personal apostacy -- I just didn't "get it" that I am responsible for my own salvation. And given that principle, it is up to me to learn, to study, to pray, and to give all that I have to gaining salvation, learning to recognize the promptings of the Holy Ghost (pure intelligence) and to follow them (obedience).

Difficult lessons to learn, to not be dependent upon our own judgment, but to trust the Lord in all things. Fear and Faith cannot abide together. We need to have Faith in the Lord and not Fear his commands -- nor fear what other men have to say about it.

In my opinion, of course.

Intelligence Pure

One of the most important things to do after being baptized is to receive the Holy Ghost. This may happen many years after being baptized! When we actually receive the Holy Ghost, then comes the promised rebirth.

After the rebith, at least it was so in my case, the scriptures became a joy to read, and the meaning of many verses and concepts came alive. These were verses I had read several times before, and thought I understood them, but now they had a newer and deeper meaning to me, such as was revealed unto me by the Holy Ghost. In essence, I felt pure intelligence flowing into me. The rebirth really opens this up for people.

Intelligence Pure

I had that happen to me once, I was lying on the ground talking with a friend explaining the principles of the Gospel (the guy was a recent reactivated member), when I pointed out the rain clouds that had been passing by several miles away. I had a feeling come over me that was unexplainable by scientific methods. I told him that I wish that those clouds would change direction and come to this small valley and rain so much that it would come off the roofs of the house in sheets of water.

Afterwards, I went inside and made lunch, and went to the front door of my place and water was coming off of the roofs of the houses in sheets. Later, that day my friend called me and asked me if I see the rain come down. I told him that I did.

I later was talking to my Branch Pres. when I told him of the event, he told me that at that time my mind and the mind of God was one.

I believe that this is pure intelligence, when your mind and your will, is connect to the mind and will of God.

I don't say this to brag or something like that I say this to give an example of pure intelligence (in my opinion).

I believe this is true because when we humble ourselves and submit our will to the Lord's, this is when we will begin to desire the things that the Lord desires for us and answers to our prayers come to us. I think this is also a form of pure intelligence. To me this indicates that pride is the most likely thing that most prevents us from becoming Prophets.

Pure Intelligence

" The first comforter or the Holy Ghost has no other effect than pure intelligence." ( "The words of Joseph Smith", The Doctrine of Election pg 4)

We are all pure intelligence, matter that cannot be created or destroyed we just , ARE. Point in fact: Abraham chapt 3:22, " Now the Lord had shown unto me , Abraham, the intelligences that were organized ."
All men have the light of Christ within them. But for that light of Christ to grow within us, we must seek it.( It:meaning truth )Then the Holy Ghost ( he being pure intelligence) bares witness to that pure knowledge you have been seeking. Hence personal revelation. Now liken that pure knowledge like unto a seed. You must plant that seed within you. Don't cast it out because of unbelief but have faith.
" Faith is a Substance( notice the matter concept.) of things hoped for , with the evidence of things unseen.( can you see all matter? No, but we know it exsists.) The only way to keep this light which Christ gives you is by willingly letting go of the darkness or sin. Dirt does put out a fire. As we receive of the light of Christ or personal revelation , revelation which includes the mysteries of God, we can't but begin to organize ourselves. " organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing." ( D&C 109:8) Little by little we will receive of his fullness( calling and election) I wish I could say this better I feel like Moroni, I will be mocked because of my poor writing.
I am sorry if my grammar or spelling offends anyone.

Good thoughts Mormon Girl,

You have given a very good post on intellegences. There is a paper that has been done, I believed published in BYU studies ( or perhaps sunstone) about the history of intelligences in mormon thought. I wished that I had a title and author for you but on the top of my head I can't think of it. Perhaps you can google it. Anyway it is interesting to see how the idea of intelligence described by you through the words of Joseph and the early brethren have changed over the years. Good insights. I do know from first hand experience that a personal friend who was a popular LDS scholar who saw intelligences very similar to how you described it was at odds with McConkie's views on the subject. They had debated it many times.
