If you played Enter the Matrix then you'll know that what you saw with Persephone and the Frenchman is the same all the time, its like a game for her but she seeks love and the Frenchman does not give it to her.

Persephone is a program that seeks to find out what humans really think based on their emotions. In order to decipher this she has to kiss her 'victim' if you want to put it that way. I will be nice to see her relationship with the Merovingian developed... Perhaps they could b a spin-off even.

Why does the machine world think they need to understand the emotions of humans? Is it that they are trying to evolve their programs to be more human like or is it just some kind of very costly experiment?

I loved the characters of the Merovingian and Persephone. They brought a certain unknown factor to the movie that didn't fit in with other characters. I wish their story was built up more but I have the feeling that if there was ever a Matrix 4 that you would see the pair playing a major role.

I was reading somewhere that the Oracle is actually Persephone's 'mother' and Persephone, like the Oracle or Trinity was sent to keep the 'One' in check. Notice how Persephone could see what the Frenchman was doing when he thought he was hiding.
