I have been reading the series. I am on Amber and Ashes right now and I have to say that the idea of a Kender who talks to the dead, and a monk who had to ally with a God he wouldn't normally follow with his sheep herding dog that is quite good at herding kender too, the combination I found is very entertaining and the making of the characters is mind boggling.
I play Dungeons & Dragons and the Pathfinder Role-playing Game that is very similar to Dungeons & Dragons. Knowing that the original books where founded on a game of Dungeons & Dragons, I can only imagine the genius of what went into the making of such rare and entertaining characters. I thought that after coming to love Tanis and his crew that I would become bored with the new characters after their stories had come to an end, I was wrong.
I have to say that the Dragonlance series is one of the best fantasy series written. I find that so far my favorite writers in the series is Margaret and Tracy. They continue to amaze me.
I second the above. Many are intimidated by the size of the books making up the DragonLance series but once you get into it the pages go by quickly because you are entertained at every page turn.
