Dragonlance... Really I have not read the series but I regret doing so, for my best friend did read this series three times... Yes three... He told me I should borrow them some time but I said maybe later... Next time he asked, maybe later... Then when I actually felt like reading them I forgot he moved... Thats why I regret reading the series, and maybe sometime I'll buy the series and keep it on my bookshelf with my other books.
I think the Dragon Lance novels are excellent, although I haven't been reading many 'new' novels.... which I consider to be most written after the chronicles.
I loved all the characters in the first three novels most of all Raistlin Majere.
Raistlin is to become undeniably evil, but it is very hard not to sympathize with both him and his twin brother Caramon, who is tortured by the growing darkness on his brother's soul.
As much as I liked the first three novels, I can not get myself to read the newest novels with the same entousiasm.. I think that's because many of my favourite characters are gone and, though I like the new 'Heroes' they just do not seem as good as 'the originals'. Still they are, in my opinion, the best dungeons&dragons novels available and score high numbers in the genre in general.
These books are what made me fall in love with fantasy. Which led me into Dungeons & Dragons. My favorite Character was absolutely Tanis. The struggles of a leader are never easy, and they portrayed that wonderfully in these books. I for one have read all the way up the Vanished Moon and then some. I find them very much worth the read.
Sidenote: My second sons name is Caleb Tanis Prestridge!
I've only ever read War of the Souls, and even then it's just the first two. I'm eagerly waiting for my finances to be balanced and tipped over in the plus side so I can get the third book now. Haven't read any of the other trilogies or whatsoever yet, although hopefully I'll get around to that when I can afford them. From what I've heard they were far better as compared to something like...Forgotten Realm or something of the like.
Dragonlance has to be my favorite series of book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy novels. The characters are so colorful and you will more then likely find at least one to identify. The ones written by the original authors Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman are really terrific, but I do not like most of the spin offs written by other writers, however.
The ending of Dragons of Summer Flame actually made me cry. (For those of you who have read it, you should know why)
I have and still have all the Dragonlance books I have read. I think the list is close to 20 now. I started with the original three and have not looked back since. The war of souls was a interesting read. I think there is alot more to learn from this series and the world still awaits for the new comers to make their places in history as Tass, Flint, Tanis and the others have done.
I love Dragonlance books. I first read one to see what my, then 14yo, son was reading so avidly. I was hooked from the start and it provided great conversation with my son. I have not read one in awhile, I do believe I am due a trip to the bookstore to see what new offerings there are. I particularly enjoy those written by Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman.
