Avoiding Burnout

international QUOTE
"I picked up a fork and explained that as long as I used it for eating, the fork would last indefinitely. However, if I began to use it to drive nails or dig trenches, it would soon break. The key was to use it for what it was designed to do.

The look in his eyes told me he got it, but I still went on to say that people are like the fork. When they do what they are not designed to do, they eventually break."

Burnout Job Suffering Are

I dont have any of the signs but I think my wife does. She absolutely hates her job and feels very underappreciated and overused. Subsequently, she has become very irritable, shows signs of fatigue and lately has been very overreactive to minor issues. Luckily she works part-time and uses her days off to recover, so it has almost become a cycle, which can be very frustrating. Needless to say we are looking for a new job for her, or possibly considering her staying at home with the kids. undecided.gif

If you calculate the cost of her working, you'd probably be better off with her at home. But that's another topic smile.gif

Your wife definitely needs to get out of that job, if working there makes her so upset.

What makes it worse is that she sees how much I like my job and that makes her feel like something is wrong with herself. I try to tell her that not everyone likes their job, in fact most people dont.

Burnout Job Suffering Are

Well I'm definetly experiencing syptoms #1. chronic fatigue , exhaustion , tiredness , a sense of being physically run down. Thanks to being in Iraq we work 7 days a week. If I get 4 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period , that is a blessing. When I go home on R&R leave. I just want to sleep all day and night. Man I'm getting excited about sleeping on a bed for a change. It sure beats sleeping on the hood of your truck. sad.gif

So, Piper. Now that you know you are verging on burn out... what can you do to change your situation? Or will you? Just curious.

After having read this, I without a doubt am suffering from burnout. It shows itself more on the first week of a month when I have to do month-end closing for billing. This week, I have been extremely tired and haven't felt well. I have a slight eye twitch from the stress. I have been so irritated at work with others. I have to rely on the business office coordinators and the nursing staff to have the proper documentation ready for me and it's never ready on time or done accurately. I get so aggravated. I dread going to work on the first week.

I usually enjoy my job, but lately I've felt like that I could do without the stress. I feel like the stress and frustration is hurting me physically (I've lost over 15 pounds in the last few months without dieting). I don't sleep well and I have been suffering from what I call a slight case of depression. I can't seem to leave work at work and not bring the thoughts about my job at home. I also hate what it has done to bwren. He hates seeing me hurt and unfortunately I don't have the luxury to quit my job. I make a pretty decent salary and I just can't see giving that up and starting over somewhere else. I feel stuck without any options.
