A good thing they backed off SOPA because there would be literally chaos online. Sites would be shut down and the most people would come online to do is check their email and that's it!
I heard the alternative for this is a project called "OPEN" instead of "SOPA" or "PIPA". At least with the OPEN bill being put forward in Congress they can have the support of the internet shareholders.
True about OPEN but they are a long way to making a final draft, in fact it is just a proposition for lawmakers to look at as an alternative to SOPA and PIPA so we don't even know if they will accept it.
