Brother Of Jared's Name?

- I've been looking for this topic and have not found it, so I went ahead and started it. If for any reason I missed it somewhere, I'm sure Moderators will take the appropriate actions. -

I have heard that The Brother of Jared's name was not specifically mentioned in the scriptures because it was too long to write and would use-up a lot of valuable space on the metal plates. I've counted the letters and there is only 1 letter of difference (if I spelled it correct). Has anyone heard any different than this?

I am not sure what you are exactly asking. The name of the brother of Jared was Mahonri Moriancumer. What are you trying to ask?

My question is: Why do the scriptures don't say "Mahonri Moriancumer" instead of "The Brother of Jared"?

I've heard the reason was: Because the name is too long and would use-up a lot of space in the metal plates. But it doesn't make sense to me, because "The Brother of Jared" is only 1 letter less than "Mahonri Moriancumer".

Any thoughts on this?

Purely speculation: Maybe it is a simple case of the name being so reverred because he spoke and saw the Lord that they did not use it in common - similar to the Jewish custom of not writing the name "God".

The only info I have at hand without research is that the revelation was given to Joseph Smith and his name is as LDS Forever said: "Mahonri Moriancumer". If you look at Ether 2:13 it does list the name of a place after his name so it could have well been written, so I go with my speculation.

This is purely speculation and my opinion. You are talking about the name "The Brother of Jared" as if the Jaredites spoke English. They spoke Adamic language. Brigham Young said that except the Jaredites, he confounded the language of the rest. We can also read that in Ether 1:35. So based on this assumption, maybe the phrase "The Brother of Jared" in Adamic language or the other language that was used in the plates, was much shorter than Mahonri Moriancumer.

Comments: Just an idea: maybe the scriptures of the Jaredites were written in symbols, somewhat like the Egyptians. Possibly the symbol for "brother" and "of" were a lot shorter than spelling out the entire name...
