[news] A Very Strange Story

While this isn't, strictly, news about the Church, it certainly involves the Church in some ways.

If nothing else, it shows how strange things are going to get in the days to come.

It seems this guy was planning on kidnapping and murdering the Prophet and all the Apostles, to extort the church into proclaiming him the Prophet.

[news] A Very Strange Story Studies Doctrine Mormon

I didn't have to subscribe, but then I may have done so previously. I don't think I had.

Google Taylor Helzer in the news section, and read some of the articles.

Here is one of the VERY strange parts of this story:

QUOTE
Quintuple murderer Taylor Helzer planned to take over the Mormon Church by kidnapping and killing its leaders with a band of Brazilian orphans-turned-assassins, an accomplice testified Tuesday.

The church takeover idea followed from Taylor's belief that he was a prophet of God, testified Godman, 30. The plot called for the abduction or murder of the Mormon president and several other officials at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she said.

"Taylor planned on killing most of the apostles and probably the prophet," Godman said. "He believed that by doing that he was fulfilling the prophecy from the Book of Mormon."

The scheme, dubbed "Brazil" by Taylor Helzer, was the latest in a series of bizarre ideas jurors have learned about during the trial's first four weeks.

The trio's central scheme was to finance a new self-help group with prostitution, extortion and drug sales.

Godman, whose testimony ended Tuesday afternoon, said Taylor persuaded her and Justin that the complex scheme would help eliminate Satan's minions from the earth in preparation for "Christ's millennial reign."

Shortly before the murders began in July 2000, the trio declared war on Satan, said Godman, who also testified she is still not sure Taylor Helzer is not a prophet.

All three defendants are former Mormons.

As I said - very strange.

I wonder what prophecy he was talking about.

spock.gif What does it take to convince some people?

I once asked one of the body guards to the First Presidency about why anyone would want to kill the prophet and their reply was something based on the Book of Mormon where it says that once they accept the Gospel and then leave it their heart becomes darker than before... (have not looked up the actual verse).

Where did you find that? It would be interesting to be part of that jury, for sure.

Here's another link to a news article that does not require a password. It never ceases to amaze me how some of the biggest psychos tend to have roots in mormonism.

Wow, these people really need help but this story makes me understand why the Prophet and some General Authorities have body-guards, I used to think: who in the world wants to kill the Prophet?. Now, I understand why. undecided.gif
