One of my friends did his university degree dissertation on this exact topic.
Offtopic but, I'll try and get a copy to post up here, but we have not spoke for a while. |
Have you ever had a flying dream and actually observed your own house and neighborhood from above? Is this astral projection? Think about it. You may have to go way back in time to remember those flying dreams...but if you saw telephone lines and roofs of houses when you had flying dreams, then I believe at least something attached to your body left your body and gave you that dream. As a child, I had many flying dreams. I saw things that I had never seen before over my own neighborhood from a vantage point that would be impossible to create from my imagination. I don't know if astral projection is the right word for what occured, but short of a more accurate description of it, I would go along with this.
I personally do not believe in Astral Travel as far as the spirit leaving the body. The reason for my conclusion is that if the spirit leaves the body then the body is dead and it becomes an Afterlife experience.
Now what I do believe is possible is mental projection where the mind can project thoughts and somehow tap into 'waves of energy' such as in remote viewing. I believe that some people may have this gift and call it 'Astral Travel'.
'waves of energy' or astral projection sound very similar. You may be right.
I believe there are a lot of psuedo religious concepts or spiritual concepts that have some validity but I believe there are more simple ways of explaining some of these concepts. While I do no believe in reincarnation as it is most often described, but I do believe souls who have lived on earth may share parts of their lives(a clip of their life) with those who are leaving heaven to experience life in the flesh. Many people have memories of some person's life who has passed but they rarely have more than a brief moments or events. God knew us before we were born and if we were spiritual beings before we were born then why wouldn't we know other souls there? Edited: rudi on 8th Mar, 2006 - 7:06pm
I think the idea of astral travel is one of those fantasies that everyone wants to be able to do, but cannot. Like most "spiritual" happens to people, the experience can be reproduced in a lab, through the placement of magnetic waves on particular places on the brain. If it can be reproduced to feel real, but is entirely not real, especially in a lab, then I am of the opinion that it is your own mind wanting to believe something. Like many such experiences, it helps validate the existence of the spirit or soul outside of this physical existence, thus lends hope of life after death to the believer in the experience.
