What do you think about Basdeo Panday as a political leader? Do you think he still has what it takes to win an election for Prime Minister?

I think he did a lot of good things, but just as any other politician - there is always a skeleton in the closet. Personally I think he would make a lot more progress if he controlled his temper in public.

I don't like him, I think it is very important for a politician to have a good image and the guy do not care about that at all, he is extremely rude, prideful and thinks he is always right. He seems to be very angry all the time because he is not the Prime Minister anymore, as soon as Manning won, Panday started behaving like a little child. I think he needs seriously to think that people look after him and if he wants votes, he better change that attitude....at least...for the cameras! rolleyes.gif

Well, well... how many times do they want to arrest the man? What is going on with T&T? Both sides constantly want to put each other in court or jail - it is becoming alarmingly ridiculous!

I never thought I would see the day where Ramesh would be defending Panday while Panday's own party members are against him, but that is how it is today. What do you think, should Basdeo step down? Ramesh's argument is there is no one to contend against the PNM as well as Panday can.

This guy cannot seem to stay out of jail. He has been found guilty for tax evasion by not declaring a million dollar London bank account. He now has to serve two years in prison and was denied bail. In addition to this there is still the airport case pending. I did find it a bit strange that he was denied bail considering that it would be obvious that an appeal will be made.

I am actually surprised Panday is this bad a politician and person, in general. When I lived in Trinidad, he had just separated from the NAR party and formed the UNC. The Indian community seemed to like the fact that they had a viable choice for Prime Minister. It is too bad that politics and power can corrupt someone like that. He used to be a decent person, at least from what I remember.

It's interesting how when he was charged the first time on corruption, he denied the bail and wanted to spend a night in prison and look at him now, his lawyers basically begging the judge for bail. *shaking head* Who in the world would believe that the 1.5 million they found on one of his accounts was a "gift" a friend gave to them for the education of their daughter? It's sad but laughable.
