QUOTE (ca1979 @ 20-Aug 08, 5:45 PM)
Even with his court case, I don't mind.

*sigh* Why am I not surprised with this statement? Trinis in general have so little self-respect to even care a corrupt politician destroying the country. In my opinion, Panday should retire and take a very long vacation. I have never seen someone with such hate and so ignorant like him.

Rather off topic, but...
Patrick Manning should do the same thing.

I don't care since politics and corruption go hand in hand. It's just the way it is, in the end. Panday's supposed actions were no different from the conduct of numerous politicians around the world.

Acknowledging some politicians in Trinidad and around the world are corrupt is one thing but you said:

I like Panday.

A whole DIFFERENT issue. sneaky.gif

I like him because he is charismatic and passionate. And as I said earlier, I also respect him for being the first and to date only Indo-Trini PM.

Personally, I don't see any of these characteristics. He is a bacchanalist in my books but to each its own.

Why would you respect someone purely based on the fact he is from a particular ethnicity?

I think Panday has a lot of flair and charm. In that sense, he is charismatic.

And again, by repeating an earlier point I made, I don't think it's fair that the majority race in Trinidad has only had one PM. Indians obviously are the economic engine, so to speak, of the country, so such prominence in society should be reflected in the country's ruling class.

Ah, you're one of those that purely think in race/ethnicity (like most Trinis). This is one of the things in Trinidad I just don't get used to because it goes against logic.

For me, whether Panday is East Indian, African or Chinese does not make a difference. I would not respect him for that. I respect a person for the things they have done, for the things they believe in....not merely by the fact they have been born with a specific ethnicity. spock.gif

I don't see everything in terms of race. Panday was the first credible Indo-Trini to run for PM and he succeeded. In which other country do the majority have a smaller amount of political representation?
