Basdeo Panday does not plan to leave his position as the Opposite leader anytime soon, even if he has to result in firing people and threatening them. He fired Lyndira Oudit from the Senate and appointed PSA Second Vice President, Christopher Joefield.
Lyndira was open about her support for Kamla and that was just the door and the reason she was fired. Basdeo did not give her any reason for firing her, he just used his power as the Opposition leader to seek revenge and create fear.
He also met with his staff and warned them that he will be monitoring their performance closely. He told them that they were operating as though the newly-elected political leader would be occupying his office tomorrow, and he insisted that this was not so. He spoke to them very seriously and nobody dared to say a word.
As we all know, Kamla needs 8 signatures of MP's in order to occupy that office and she was waiting for Carnival to be over with to get the last signature she needs from Dr. Tim Gopeesingh who was leaning towards supporting her BUT according to sources, Basdeo Panday met with him during this week and he is very confident he WILL NOT be supporting Kamla. If that's true, then she won't be able to become the new Opposition leader.
He also fired legal counsel Collin Partap and economist to his office, Dave Tancoo. Why? Because Partap now sits on the UNC executive.
My goodness, this man needs to go and NOW!

Comments: See, Panday cares nothing. He so want to prove how the child spoiled because he is not the leader that he even voted WITH the government against the opposition on a motion today.
You are very right Solange. I was not surprised at all. I don't think Kamla expected that move but it was so obvious! He is so bitter about losing and what he did today it is JUST the beginning. He will do everything in his power to get Kamla to lose in the next general elections even if he must support Manning.

Comments: According to most of his die hard supporters, Basdeo Panday did a lot for Indo-Trinbagoians and by extension the entire country, but I beg to differ. Since he has been in politics he has done nothing but put a wedge - to the point of destroying - every organisation; Sugar Cane Workers Union, United Labour Front, NAR and in the not to distant future the UNC; that has had the misfortune to have him as leader of that said organisation.
The man should do like the now deceased, former Prime Minister the Honourable George Chambers, and just retire from all forms of public life.
Well, it's not over until is over right? Even though Basdeo Panday had decided not to be screened for the UNC, he decided to run as Independent and fight for the seat of Chaguanas West against Jack Warner.
Oh my gosh, give me a break. This man seriously need to step down from politricks. He has shown that there is only one person he cares about and that's himself and now you're telling me he's trying to run as independent just because his ego has been hurt? It's too much to digest.
Both Jack Warner and Kamala Persad-Bissessar both wished Basdeo Panday a happy 77th Birthday as today - 25th May is his Birthday. They did so in their winning speeches. Ironic how they celebrate an overwhelming victory by the party Basdeo Panday founded but for which now he has no major role or seat. I am sure they will have something for him to do, but it remains to see what it will be.
