Former Prime Minister, opposition Leader, Lawyer, Family Man and now Criminal? What are your thoughts about Basdeo Panday? Is he being targeted?

I agree that Panday is being targeted. There is so much blatant corruption being committed by the PNM party since they came into power. But for some reason, these scandals are the proverbial elephant in the room: Everybody sees it, no one mentions it.

Instead, members of the UNC are used to throw off suspicions against the present government.
There is only so much one can defend Panday, however, since he did make his own bed, so he may as well have a nice long sleep in it...

Its time for new leadership... Panday needs to get out of polictics, if you are corupt you should have to pay the consequences, no matter who you are.

The PNM is way to organised and is why they get away with corruption not to mention the PNM supported media goes after any and all Indian politician looking to discredit them in any way shape or form, the attention should go to all policitians not ones of a specific ethnic group. Its oppresive style behavior!

Two things I have an opinion on:

1. Panday coming back to the UNC is proof that Panday is the UNC and without him the UNC isn't much. However, given Panday's conviction I think that his coming back does nothing of significance because people or should I say former UNC supporters have lost focus on the party.

2. The search of his home right after an adjournment of his case until June and going back into the leadership of the UNC appeared to be suspicious to be too coincidental, especially after regularly questioning him.

What do you think... will Panday get off tomorrow or will the conviction be upheld? Regardless, there will be many appeals on both sides.

Well he got off, at least for now as there needs to be a retrial. Granted the whole idea of this bacchanal with the Chief Justice and unwilling parties to testify certainly came at the right time for Panday. Now he has strength to run in the upcoming elections.

Panday was barred from being in Parliament today and it seems that he cannot represent Couva North again until reelection. I wonder how this will play out now?

Is it legally to stop him from doing it? It seems more like a vendetta that anything else, maybe someone here has the insight in the legality of this?

tongue.gif Well, they all contact a lawyer before taking some sort of action. This was specifically called by the Speaker of the House. We will have to see how this all pans out with our micky mouse justice system where even a senior magistrate does not need to testify if he does not want to.
