Some like and some don't but the History of Jazz is quite unique:
Jazz represents a merging and melding of many different peoples and their heritages. During the 1800s in America's south, music was an integral part of the life of plantation slaves of African descent. Plantation songs, spirituals, and field hollers were a part of everyday life -- to celebrate, to mourn, to entertain, to commemorate, to worship, and to accompany the drudgery of work. This music of the plantations blended with the European-American musical tradition to create the basis for blues, ragtime, and other musical forms from which jazz evolved.

I admit, I don't know much about Jazz groups or singers, but there are some times where that type of music is appropriate or just seems to fit. It can be very soothing and the culmination of so many musical instruments is very impressive. My favorite type of Jazz music would be the Blues. For me it isn't depressing; it is quite relaxing.
I love jazz music. I participate in a Vocal Jazz choir and we sing quite a few songs from that time. Any type of Jazz appeals to me. Perhaps from singing it for so long, but I do rather enjoy it.
Our Jazz choir has gone downhill since we started, but because of gaining a new african american teacher things are sounding a bit better. She' a much better teacher than the one we had previously, although the singers this year lack any quality.
